"I want the music to be authentic, but I want it to be authentic in the moment you're doing it. I want to be honest to God in the moment of the thing when it's happening. So you do toy with it, or play with it. It's not replicating something, it's breathing new life into it being true to the thing without trying to duplicate it." - T Bone Burnett Rock&Roll comes in many different kinds and most of the time, the boundaries between DooWop, Psycho-, Neo-, Hill- and Rockabilly are clear-cut.
But why restrict to thinking in genres? If a band writes its own repertoire -like Raik & the Chainballs do- it might just as well be everything all over the place! And that's just the way for Raik (gt / voc / har), Olli (lead.gt / voc), Shadow (b) and Till (dr / voc) to recreate Rock&Roll. See for yourself how much fun you can have with Raik & the Chainballs - From the dawn:
Moreover it has taken them places too: a nice heap of shows with the Stray Cats, the SpaceCadets, Caravans and the Rockabilly Mafia amongst others. Last year they also made a nice little trip to Holly Burnette's famous studio in Berlin and recorded 14 killer hits. On these recordings Miss Britta Redfire, who became a housewife afterwards, is showing off on the drums and Metin, who is a Gunslinger now, is all over the place with his jazz-styled licks on lead guitar.
Currently the material is being mastered and the layout for the booklet is being finished. Only one question remains: Which of the world's rockabilly-major-labels is ready to take Raik & the Chainballs on board?More fun with Raik & the Chainballs - Shame on you:
