David Harrison 'hum' Released July 2005

About Me

David Harrison is a Liverpool based artist, and one of the many new breed of singer/songwriters who have rejected the mainstream in favour of releasing their work on small independent labels. Harrison's new album 'hum' (named after the 'hum' created by the big bang-still detectable by background noise on TV or Radio) is a collection of 13 carefully crafted songs, recorded at the Cutting Rooms in Manchester during 2004-2005. After gaining a publishing deal with Bald Music (a subsidiary of the Liverpool based Probe Plus label) the album was released in July, 2005. The songs are a blend of acoustic styles such as 'luminous circles' and more 'rockier' numbers like 'she loves the sun', using Harrison's sky high harmonies and catchy guitar riffs. Songs such as 'Lost in the Ocean' and 'Get out of my Hair' capture Harrison's melodic vocal style, the later balancing the vocals with a drifting flute part playing in the background, reminding the listener that the 'hum' of the universe can be captured on tape! The album was re-mixed and re-mastered for re-release by Probe Plus in 2007.

Band Members: David Harrison on lead vocal and acoustic guitar, assisted by Adam Speakman on bass and string arrangements, Karl McCabe on flute, Lance Lewis on vibe and other assorted musicians who were tuned in to the 'hum'!!
Influences: Influences include cult sixties bands such as Love, The Misunderstood and solo artists such as Nick Drake and Syd Barrett. I'm also inspired by the post punk Liverpool scene, with bands such as Echo and the Bunnymen and the Teardrop Explodes - bands that experimented and got lost on the other side.
