I hesitated putting up a profile on Myspace for a long time. Primarily because I think the internet is already addicting enough, taking away from valuable things like, oh LIFE, and I think Myspace is a perfect example of technology taking over your organic sensory experiences- like the lack of seeing other things besides a glaring computer screen; and not really being able to have a focused conversation with anyone else when you're sucked in, and I'm usually not singing (or writing) either when I'm online. Not to mention the fact that you're almost 100 percent sedentary (except for typing and clicking your mouse), which is just plain bad. But seeing the brita half full, the computer is most definitely a means to enhance my favorite sense, the ability to hear (music), which is how I even have songs posted up in the first place- by collaborating with people from all over the world through the one thing I love to hate and hate to love- the internet. This is when I finally gave in to creating a profile, because I realized it's a great way to promote the music I co-wrote and sang to, and of course a way to meet like-minded, really cool people from all over. But at any rate, I hope you like what you hear! If you do, then turn the volume up, look away from the computer screen, and get up and dance because your mind, body and spirit need you to. Ok, so now we can continue to me writing about myself in the third person (which I don't like one bit, but my Mom helped me write this this so I promised her I'd put it up): Marissa was born into a family of music. Her famous relative, Yasha Heifitz, was once the world's foremost classical violinist. Her interesting genealogy continued with another famous relative, her father, Eddie Guzman. Eddie was the percussionist in the well-known band, Rare Earth, the first all-white group for Motown Records. Their song "I Just Want to Celebrate," was recently featured and remixed on the electronic community's dedication to Motown: Motown Remixed. Because of Rare Earth's fame, starting at age 9, it was a ritual for Marissa to go to their concerts and sing backup vocals to "Get Ready" and "I Just Want to Celebrate" on stage, amongst tens of thousands of fans. It was then that Marissa knew she wanted to pursue singing. While she prefers singing to the soulful sounds and electronic beats of House music, her ability to transform an instrumental song with her harmonious melodies and thought-provoking lyrics enhance every project she works upon, making the music and her sweet voice a match made in heaven.
