Those who try to avoid small talk and would rather discuss jello than life status quo. Those with confidence, boldness, audacity- mixed with an equally penetrable amount of reserve. Those that can identify jaded indifference, and instead choose to care. Those who embrace honesty, in its kindest form, as the best means of communication. Those who believe that life questions our abilities and challenges us to be kinder and more resilient day by day.
I grew up listening to:
1.) good 80's music- such as the kind that makes you want to tap a toe or bob your head
2.) self-deprecating womyn who sang and cried and belted their music with even the smallest extentions of their eyelids, like Tori Amos and Paula Cole, Poe, Fiona Apple, Bjork.
3.) Great Jazz vocalists, like Billie, Ella, Natalie Cole...
4.) Fabulous alternative- (and Indie rock) like The Cranberries, Modest Mouse...
5.) Great Acoustic, bluegrass, and those that made their guitars sing, such as Dave Matthews w/ Tim Reynolds, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Jimi Hendrix, Allison Krauss
6.)Classical like Beethoven and Bach, Broadway musicals and the operatic voices of many.
7.) Anything loud, with screaming guitar lines
Adding to those roots, my favorites currently include Mae, Schubert, Renee Fleming, Glassjaw, Shamelady, Metric, Sneaker Pimps, Coheed and Cambria, Frou Frou, Reggie and the Full Muthafuckin Effect...
