My name is Heather and I am a volunteer at Auras House. I spend time each week trying to let as many people as I can know about the great work that Aura's House does. I created this Myspace page to get people to go to http://www.aurashouse.com .
You don't have to be a millionare to help Aura's House become even more successful at helping children and families all over the world! We appreciate donations of as little as $1.00. Many people do not donate money to worthy causes because they think that their $1.00 or $5.00 donation isn't enough. Every little bit counts and every little bit helps needy people. Also, if you wanted to help further you could spread the word about Aura's House for us. Again, this may not seem like much to you but it is a huge help! If everyone that came onto the site told ten or twenty of their friends via email or verbally about Aura's House it would give us a chance to get new supporters.
YOU can make a difference! It feels good to help others and if more people helped others the world would be a much better place. I am not wealthy and I do not have a lot of free time but I am still able to help Aura's House by getting the word out to others. If I can do it, anyone can.
So, if you have a couple of dollars you can donate or if you have a few minutes to send some emails to your friends about us you can be a part of something really special.
More about Aura's House:
At the beginning of 2004, Kristen Palana launched an online project called Aura’s House:
http://www.aurashouse.com . It's a fundraising website whose original goal was to raise $4500 to build a safe, sturdy home for 11-year old Aura Hernandez and her family who live in one of the poorest slums in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Aura has been Kristen’s sponsored child for six years through the top-rated charitable organization Children International ( http://www.children.org ).
Now, four years later, the grassroots site has raised more than $50,000 – all of which has gone to help a grand total of 27 sponsored children, their families and communities in 10 countries on 4 continents! They now run two projects simultaneously, a Main Project (around $5,000) and a Small Project (around $500).
The latest Small Project (#19)is for my sponsored child Daniela of the Dominican Republic. Children International wrote Daniela's project office and they had their field workers see what her family could really use. I just received a letter from them regarding Daniela's family. They are in great need of a refrigerator to keep food fresh and a chest of drawers.
I also asked for her for sure to get an atlas and a dictionary. Being from a poor family she would not be able to afford to get these items for her home and I feel they would be invaluable for her education. Plus her siblings and cousins could use this resource while studying and it can do good for many. Because of Daniela being sponsored she gets to go to school. Otherwise her family wouldn't be able to afford the books and uniforms public schools demand in their country. I encourage Daniela to study hard because education is the key to her future. In her country poor girls are usually educated for less time then their male siblings. Sponsorship changes that for her. I support other places in my home country and believe in helping your own but I also believe that children are important everywhere. I believe empowering young females and giving them that shot they might not otherwise get is so very important.
Daniela lives with her mother, father, 2 sisters and a brother in one multi-use room that is sectioned off with a blanket. They get water from a neighbor's faucet. Her father is a daily worker and her mother is a maid. The family's monthly income is roughly $100 (usd) per month. Daniela is turning 9 years old on September 4th.
We would would like to raise $500 for them to receive a refrigerator, chest of drawers, atlas and dictionary.
The latest Main Project is the Guatemala Bed Project.
We aim to buy desperately needed beds for impoverished families in Guatemala. Our goal is to raise $4200. Each bed costs $105 and our goal is to provide beds (mattresses included) to the 40 neediest families identified by Children International's Guatemala City Agency. All donations are 100% US Tax Deductible.
For more details, please visit http://www.aurashouse.com/smproj19index.htm When you click to donate, you will be taken to Children International’s website (www.children.org). All donations are 100% tax-deductible, and upon completing your donation you will receive an automated email you can print out for this purpose. It does require you signing up at Children International's website but rest assured: Children International does not rent, sell or exchange their mailing lists nor any information submitted through their website. Thank you in advance for whatever you are able to give. Every little bit helps, even a dollar! Please tell your friends about us too.
