Lamine Cissokho was brought up in Casamance- a region well-known for having a rich culture of musical traditions in southern Senegal. He is a descendant of the mandingue Griot family-a famous family of traditional musicians since the 1400 century. Every member of the family helps preserving their musical inheritance by playing their music and teaching the coming generations. Lamines father is the professional kora-player Sana Cissokho and his mother the singer Fatoumata Drame from Casamance. Lamine and his siblings have been singing and playing kora and other traditional west-african instruments with their father since their childhood. Early the kora became his main instrument. Since the age of 10 Lamine has been playing in a lot of different groups and today he is well-known as koraplayer, now living in Falun, Sweden since 2001.
In sweden he has been playing with musicians as Ale Möller Band, Maria Jonsson, Ian Carr, Anders Nygårds, Baba Blues, and several other folk musicians. He has been playing at Urkultfestivalen several times and he has been working as a musician at Dalateatern.
Lamine is inspired by Souriba Koyaté, Toumani Diabate, and Sana Cissokho.
