ME IN A NUTSHELL:
I'm not making music to earn money, gain notoriety, or change the world. I'm making music for myself and trying to make it as simultaneously expressive and entertaining as possible. I hate musicians who take themselves and their music too seriously, as well as music fans who expect that from bands. If you're reading this, you're probably one of the good ones.
THIRD-PERSON AUTOBIOGRAPHY AND NAMEDROPPING:
Matt Wixson is first and foremost a fan of music, particularly that inspired and influenced by the great artists of Jamaica. Paranoia and social awkwardness had a teenage Matt turn to music as his only form of expression. Interests in punk, folk, dancehall and dub all creep in and out of the music, but ska and reggae remain fairly constant. He records everything on his own (so far), using his guitar, bass, keyboard, vocal, and computer skills. An obvious stlyistic comparison can be made to contemporaries Bomb The Music Industry!, though the overall sound of the Matt Wixson catalog tends to be increasingly light on the punk rock element. He also proudly lets his loves of sarcasm, satire and politics shine through in his songs. The live show is generally an energetic, humor-driven acoustic set where nothing is sacred. It's not uncommon to hear new lyrics in older songs according to the environment of an individual show, making every performance unique. Matt has a reputation for being a fun, if unpredictable, spectacle. This spectacle has landed him supporting slots along side some of his (and probably not your) favorite bands, including Dr. Ring Ding, Pilfers, Mustard Plug, King Django, Gangster Fun, Sonic Boom Six, the Flatliners, Hub City Stompers, Deal's Gone Bad, Bomb Town, the Scofflaws, and plenty more. It also secured him the first-ever keyboardist position in CT-based skacore band, the Flaming Tsunamis. He performed at the 2006 Van's Warped Tour as a guest of Fishbone's Angelo Moore, and he's recorded with King Django at his legendary Version City Studios. As a musician it's a great feat, but as a ska fan, it's dream after dream coming true.
Bands don't get "Who I'd Like To Meet" sections, but I want to meet the following people:
Eminem, Bob Dylan, the Dalai Lama, Fat Mike, Tom Gabel, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Stephen Colbert, Barack Obama, Greg Graffin, Larry David, Andrew W.K., Billie Joe Armstrong, Michael J. Nelson.
I ain't famous yet! You can talk to me!
