I'm thirty years old! I've been 30 years old for going on 30 years now. When I was ten everyone told me I was so much older than my age. When I turned 29 I promised myself I was going to stay young forever. I've kept the promise to myself but others don't seem to recognize the fact. The problem is that despite what's happening between my ears; my skin, hair and walk seem to be getting more like that of an old person...but believe me...I'm still in my prime! (at least my brain is!)It's a problem how society views aging. It's a problem how I view aging. My high school had a reunion as a reminder that I graduated 40 years ago. I refused to go 'cuz I just didn't want to be among a bunch of old people!So that's that...
I've been a professional photog. for over thirty years...I can't think of anything else I would rather do... For me it's been the perfect profession. My first college degree was in social-psychology. I at the same time completed a formal education in photography. I think it worked out well to combine the three. With a formal education in sociology and psychology it helps me with a direction as to what I wish to photograph and the education in photography makes it possible to know how to get the subject matter into a useful image. I did however, spend too much time photographing people struggling in their lives, in pain, in grief, in poverty, the criminals and the victims...after years of working in the streets and gutters I took a new direction...I started making as many pictures as possible of people having fun, enjoying life, their accomplishments, the joy of parenting, people that were suvivors and those moments that fill one heart with joy and a few pics that were just a bit off-beat and funny....so to me, the life of a photojournalist... is viewing subjects as if I, the photographer, have arrived from a distant planet. I am here as an observer with a camera capturing life as it exists on planet earth.
