The Struggle Continues

About Me

"I have been terrified of success, as well as the responsibility associated with it. I have sabotaged myself, both consciously and subconsciously. I have immersed myself in the struggle not as a means to an end, but as a buffer to never reach success. Only to fail, which justifies the struggle. This album was put together as therapy. To move on, knowing that I am deserving of success."- I Self Devine, Minneapolis, MN 2004
Self-Destruction (Rhymesayers)
Its not fashionable to talk about problems of poverty and violence in Americas forgotten cities, but I Self Devine put out a collection of songs filled with frustration and a ready-to-burst rage. The best artists are the ones who try and warn us of our approaching fate, and its impossible to hear a song like All We Need is Another Day without thinking of the giant wake-up call of Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans may be geographically distant from I Self Devines home in the northern Midwest, but the cultural and economic proximity is shoulder-to-shoulder. We were all sleeping on a lot of important things this year; dont sleep on this record. Matthew Holota of Buffalo's Artvoice
