I am here for Friends

About Me

Native Chicagoan, current Angeleno, but still a Cubs fan. I'm a writer, but enjoy all kinds of creative endeavors, especially photography and music. I love that I still get carded sometimes. I like to laugh and smile, but I love making other people laugh and smile.
I've got some of my photography posted (and in fact, my MySpace "wallpaper" is a shot I took at Mt. Wilson here in Southern California!) ..... unfortunately, Yahoo! Photos has shut down. They're now up on Kodak, which doesn't link directly to my albums, so e-mail me a request, and I'll be more than happy to send you an invitation... include your e-mail address!
My life is extremely random and crazy, with more than my fair share of bizarre coincidences and twists of fate, but it sure makes things interesting! And hey, you never know what may come of it... seriously, if somebody had told me in June 1999 that I'd be wearing an Olympic gold medal in Australia 15 months later, I probably would have laughed... :)
My motto: Conventional thinking may dictate the norm, but unconventional thinking will always set the standard.
Recent Profile Songs (recommended listening!)
"Flawed Design" - Stabilo
"Decided To Break It" - Mariana's Trench
"Goodnight Goodnight" - Hot Hot Heat
"Never Be Lonely" - The Feeling
"Catch My Disease" - Ben Lee
"Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" - Stars

My Interests

Music, movies, photography, sports (baseball and football are the favorites), travel

I'd like to meet:

good question... i've met so many people already, but i'm sure there are many more people to be met...

Please, if you're sending a Friend request (and I don't know you already), write me a little note introducing yourself, because there are far too many "Friend-spammers" out there these days. If you're truly interested in getting to know me, tell me! :)

Music:

In my collection, there's a little bit of everything, from Aaliyah to ZZ Top... hip-hop to pure pop... rock to Bach... funk to punk. (But not opera, 'cause really, no other genres rhyme with opera.) I believe there's both good and bad music to be found in just about every genre, so I simply embrace good music, wherever it can be found.

Current favorite CD: Bruce Springsteen "Magic"

Movies:

Airplane!, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, This is Spinal Tap (and any of the Christopher Guest "mockumentaries"), Field of Dreams, The Blues Brothers, the American Pie movies, There's Something About Mary...

...and "Silly Love Songs." If you've never heard of it, hopefully someday you will. It's a screenplay I've written.

Television:

Still on the air: 24, The Simpsons, Prison Break, House

Gone, but not forgotten: The X-Files, Seinfeld, The West Wing, Cheers, WKRP in Cincinnati (having worked in radio, I can appreciate the humor even more now!), and many more.

Books:

1984, Catcher In The Rye, the Harry Potter series

Heroes:

I tend to not have heroes, because all humans are fallible in some way or another, and I'd rather not be disappointed. I mean hey, a few years ago, who would have thought that the best athletes of our generation would have achieved that status through chemistry instead of, say, talent and hard work?

My Blog

Match Game 2008!

We may have lost Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Somers this past year, but that doesn't mean the rest of us can't still play the game... so here we go!  You know how the Match Game works, r...

My feet really hate me! (a Christmas adventure)

For those of you who had any doubts, you can probably look at this as confirmation that I'm just slightly crazy.  Or maybe not. Seeking a little adventure on a day that's generally pretty boring ...

if we chopped down a million trees...

...in the rainforest, environmental groups would be going absolutely nuts. But every year, nearly 100 million Christmas trees are chopped down and sold in the U.S. and Europe alone. Because more than ...

what a great 24 hours...

I mean seriously, how often do you get to kiss a sweet, beautiful Southern girl and have your favorite baseball team clinch its division on the same day? (Actually, twice... oddly enough, it happ...

geez, you try to be nice...

So generally, I have little sympathy for panhandlers who are begging for money. See, I've been homeless before, and I never asked anybody for any money.  I wasn't making much, but I worked (...

ugh... would somebody just put her out of OUR misery?

The new Britney Spears single, "Gimme More," was released to radio this afternoon, so I just listened to it. Yes, it's the train wreck we all expected it to be.  Mechanical, repetitive (to a...
