I am here for Friends

About Me

By the grace of God I am a Christian man, by my own actions a great sinner, and by calling I am still searching. I am married to a wonderful girl Leann, who is very well suited to my diverse nature. I am not only a Christian but also a Sub-Deacon of the Eastern Orthodox Church, which I firmly believe is The Church passed down from Jesus Christ to the Apostles, preserved by the Holy Fathers, martyrs, saints, and the faithful through this present day unto ages to come. I am also active in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). I am a lover, a romantic, an actor, a philosopher, a dreamer, and a bit of an eccentric. A few of my chief pleasers are smoking fine tobacco in pipes, drinking good wine, & having good conversation. I also enjoy theater, art, historical recreation, games, films, and music. I am a book person. I prefer non-fiction; theology, theater, art, philosophy, history, or books on pipes and wine. I do read a lot of fiction; fantasy, poetry, horror, the classics, and some SciFi. I love coffee, going for coffee, and the culture of coffee it is very convulsive to comradery & thought provoking conversation. I also dabble to some extent in the gothic romanticism of our day.
In the SCA I am Taran Saraev, a Mongol of the 13-14th century at the height of the empire. I am interested in period nomadic life and the cultural/knowledge exchanges via the Pax Mongolia! My concentration is on The Mongolian Steppes, China, & Russia. I also have a small, but growing, infatuation with period astronomy (Western, Chinese...all types). I enjoy brewing and venting, bardic circles, messing with heavy combat & archery, messing with herbs, heraldry, and etc.

My Interests

The Eastern Orthodox Church, Theology, Philosophy, Pipes and Fine Tobaccos, SCA, Mythology, The Mongolian Empire, Ancient China, Russia of the Czars, The Silk Road, Gaelic Culture, Middle Eastern Culture, Chess, Backgammon, Stargazing, Theatre, The Arts, Things Bardic, Druidry, Esoteric Studies, Herbary, Chainmail, Brewing and Venting, Swordswmanship, Scooters (Vespa!) & etc.

I'd like to meet:

I have meet so many wonderful people already, but still am interested to meet more. I love to meet artists of all kinds. Whether actors musicians, film makers, sculptors poets, or the other many types, artists are usually kindred souls. I also have a love for scholars of many kinds. Whether philosophers, theologians, scientists, historians, teachers, students, or causal observers. Anyone who can wet my taste for intellectual conversion generally fits this bill. In reality I am up for anyone who is a bit off, unusual, & or fun. I must warn you, though, that strangeness, insanity, eccentricity, & or a dark inclination are requirements for friendship. Not all but at least one must be met.

Heroes:

Our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ - the King of Kings, the Great Archpriest, & the Creator of the Universe

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.

Our All-holy, immaculate, most blessed and glorified Lady, the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary

It is truly meet to bless thee, O Theotokos, who art ever blessed and all-blamelesss, and the mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim, thou who without stain barest God the Word, and art truly Theotokos: we magnify thee.

Saint Patrick, the Enlightener of Ireland

O Holy Hierarch, equal of the Apostles, Saint Patrick, wonderworker and enlightener of Ireland: Intercede with the merciful God that He grant unto our souls forgiveness of offences.

Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra

The truth of things hath revealed thee to thy flock as a rule of faith, an icon of meekness, and a teacher of temperance; for this cause, thou hast achieved the heights by humility, riches by poverty. O Father and Hierarch Nicholas, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved.

Three Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, & John Chrysostom

The three most great luminaries of the Three-Sun Divinity have illumined all of the world with the rays of doctrines divine and true; they are the sweetly-flowing rivers of wisdom, who with godly knowledge have watered all creation in clear and mighty streams: The great and sacred Basil, and the Theologian, wise Gregory, together with the renowned John, the famed Chrysostom of golden speech. Let us all who love their divinely-wise words come together, honouring them with hymns; for ceaselessly they offer entreaty for us to the Trinity.

Augustine the Blessed, Bishop of Hippo

O holy Hierarch Augustine thy life was in accordance with thy name. Thou didst preach the greatness of God; thou was adorned with greatness of deeds; thou was crowned with the greatness of struggles; thou was enlightened by the greatness of thy love towards Christ. Wherefore pray for us who honor thee that we be granted great mercy.

George the Great Martyr & Triumphant

Liberator of captives, defender of the poor, physician of the sick, and champion of kings, O trophy-bearer, Great Martyr George, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved.

Moses the Black of Scete

Thou didst prove to be a citizen of the desert, an angel in the flesh, and a wonderworker, O Moses, our God-bearing Father. By fasting, vigil, and prayer thou didst obtain heavenly gifts, and thou healest the sick and the souls of them that have recourse to thee with faith. Glory to Him that hath given thee strength. Glory to him that hath crowned thee. Glory to Him that worketh healings for all through thee.

Herman the Wonderworker of Alaska & First Saint of America

Blessed ascetic of the northern wilds and gracious intercessor for the whole world, teacher of the Orthodox Faith, good instructor of piety, adornment of Alaska and joy of all America, holy Father Herman, pray to Christ God that He save our souls.

Ignatius the God-Bearer, Bishop of Antioch

The divine and brilliant day of thine illustrious contests doth proclaim to all mankind Him that was born of a Virgin; for it was for Him that thou didst thirst to delight in, and didst haste to be devoured by beasts in thy longing. Hence, O glorious Ignatius, the name God-bearer was rightly given to thee.

Tryphon the Martyr

Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for Thee received the prize of the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since he possessed Thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.

St. Mary of Egypt

Having been a sinful woman, You became through repentance a Bride of Christ. Having attained angelic life, You defeated demons with the weapon of the Cross; Therefore, O most glorious Mary you are a Bride of the Kingdom!

David the King

Today godly David is filled with joy; Joseph and James offer praise. The glorious crown of their kinship with Christ fills them with great joy. They sing praises to the One ineffably born on earth, and they cry out: "O Compassionate One, save those who honor You!"
