writing (an unfinished play, finished a couple of short stories, 9 published poems in the past year), painting, starting to collect vinyls, live shows, knitting, baking (pretty cupcakes), drinking drinking drinking glug glug glug...
i'd like to have drinks with bill murray. seems like he'd be fun to throw straws and peanuts at. he'd make great facial expressions and i would laugh... that's really all i can come up with for now...!
tom waits is perhaps my favourite person. the rolling stones, RADIOHEAD, nick drake, elliott smith, ani (yes) difranco, leonard cohen, tv on the radio, the yeah yeah yeahs, the white stripes, modest mouse, wolf parade, bloc party, feist, arcade fire, postal service, serge gainsbourg, teitur, and much much more.
all wes anderson movies, un crabe dans la tete, 8 1/2, donnie darko, mermaids, lost in translation, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (um charlie kaufman = genius), you me and everyone we know, the squid and the whale, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (everyone go see this. steve carell is my other favourite person).
the sun also rises, a prayer for owen meany (what a story-teller, john irving), cat's cradle, breakfast of champions, franny & zooey, the edible woman. and i like e.e.cummings. kurt vonnegut's imagination is absurd if not supernatural. what an author he is. what authors J.D. and oscar are as well. and i mean authors, not just writers. ian mcewan's atonement was great. one of those books you become part of, unable to put it down. just finished the bell jar. intense, but impressive. i love raymond carver's short stories (what we talk about when we talk about love). truman capote's in cold blood is a ridiculous book (beyond being a good story, it's also perfectly written) and everyone should read it. the pillowman by martin mcdonagh is probably my favourite play, to date. so disturbing but so funny. poets i like and think i've been influence by are: (e.e. cummings already mentioned but worth re-metioning in this parenthetical thought) margaret atwood, william carlos williams, leonard cohen and some japanese poetry (particularly tanka). and also, my caitlin reid.
