Born from the abyss.

About Me

Resurrection is a funny thing. Especially when your talking about the recent resurgence of interest in that bastard child of rock n roll we've come to call HEAVY METAL. The forefathers reclaim their previous glory, and a sea of newcomers flood in, determined to capture the timeless and powerful essence of what made the original bands such a sonic spectacle. But what of evolution? What of progress? Paying homage to the immaculate recordings and performances of the legends of metal is undeniably important. But is resurrection just a form of re-living past glory? Or like the phoenix rising from the ashes to soar to newfound heights, will metal move forward and blaze new trails, cover new ground, and shake the world to the core like never before? It's this philosophy that drives Canadian metal outfit Maelstrom. The desire to pay homage to their heroes, while forging a sharp new weapon of previously unknown intensity, emotion, and bone-rattling power. With an undying dedication to technicality and composition, but also retaining the rough-around-the-edges mentality of rock'n'roll and even the pissed-off attitude and DIY ethic of punk. The music of Maelstrom features the band's ability of unapologetically melding ecclectic themes of philosophy, spirituality, frontier science, classic literature, and personal experiences, with more conventional metal themes of aggression, depression, life, death, the occult, the macabre, and most importantly strength and resiliency. Seeking to break the constricting bonds of labels and sub-genre classifications, the band treats every song as it's own style unto itself. Blending elements from even corner of the music world, past and present, all under a focussed metal framework, the band strives to move the genre ever forward.Maelstrom is metal as it was meant to be played. Fearlessly and lawlessly. The resurrection is here, but the REVOLUTION is coming...
