Influences: Old bluesmen. If it's a recording of a guy with a guitar from before either of the two World Wars or shortly after I like it (Charlie Patton, Son House, Bukka White, Skip James, Willie Brown, Tommy McClennan, Henry Thomas, Bo Weavil Jackson, Honeyboy Edwards, Furry Lewis, Blind Willie Mctell, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Boy Fuller, Blind Willie Johnson, anyone else who's blind, Sleepy John Estes, Sam Collins, Sonny Boy Williamson I and II, Big Joe Williams, Mississippi Fred Mcdowell, Lightnin' Hopkins, Charley Jordan, Elvie Thomas, Garfield Akers, Joe Callicot, Scrapper Blackwell, Kokomo Arnold, Jaybird Coleman, Ed Bell, Peg Leg Howell, Geeshie Wiley, etc etc etc...). I'm also a thief of/inspired by beat poets (Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac...), the better folk music of today (Malcolm Holcombe, Chris Smither, Ian Thomas, Jane Gilday...), Mississippi Hill Country Blues (RL Burnside, Charles Caldwell, T Model Ford, etc..), Appalachian Mountain/old time music (Roscoe Holcomb, Dock Boggs, 'Banjo' Bill Cornett, Clarence Ashley, Tommy Jarrell, Fred Cockerham, J.P. Nestor, Lee Sexton, John Hammond, Bascam Lumsford, etc..), good country music (Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams I, II, Buck Owens, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Uncle Dave Macon, Brad Paisley, Ray Scott), Kris Kristofferson (who is the greatest songwriter ever), the early rock and roll (Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Johnny Burnette Trio, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc..) Bob Dylan (but then who hasn't?), jazz (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Coltrane...) anything found on "The Anthology of American Folk Music" or the "Mountain Music of Kentucky" sets. I also like some Joss Stone, Avril Lavigne, or Christina Aguilera on occasion..

Yesterday, I went to the Fireback Fiddle & Banjo Contest in Oxford, New Jersey and entered into the clawhammer banjo contest.  So I got up there and did "Wild Bill Jones" and "Pretty Polly." ...
