About Me

Justin opened his mouth one day and hasn't closed it for 26 years. What comes out of it is almost always too loud, and may sometimes surprise you, maybe even stop to make you think or feel something you'd lost touch with or forgotten about, but most of the time, you're left trying to sort out which parts to bring home with you and which to sprinkle like kitty litter on time's bar floor and step over on your way out the door. But even the kitty litter bits will stick to your shoes, so no matter how much you'd like to leave it behind, a line or a note or phrase will follow you home and climb into bed with you. That's the way Justin's songs work. Songs about cards, water, love, politics, jealousy, youth, friendship, sin, and drinking, all crafted with a care that reveals itself on repeated listens. Intrigued? Feel free to download a song or two, or even better, come check out one of Justin's shows, either solo on guitar and harmonica, or backed by the rotating cast of characters who provide live accompaniment, inspiration, and friendship to the precocious Mr. Pope and his big mouth. For more information, send an email to [email protected] ..
Also, Justin is the sometime host of John & Peter's weekly Open Mic Night on Mondays. Sign-up before 9 to play a 3-song set, 2 songs otherwise. For more information, check out www.johnandpeters.com

Sounds Like: A Sprinter Who Knows His Limits Avoids the MarathonThe carpet is crawling with Cardinal Sin, Jesus is calling, he wants you back in. So you vacuum, and call it a day. Did they tell you? It was all for the best, when they stapled that map to your chest-- big, red X's designed to keep you in O's. Let's go color blind, then, maybe, who knows? I get to thinking, when I've been drinking, that maybe we're better this way in the long run, the sprinter avoiding a marathon. The phone never rings, but you see him around. You've got all of his things, they won't stay in the ground. But the pages are thin, so you see through the words and back when blind faith was in all the edges got blurred, and now I get to thinking, when I've been drinking, that maybe we're better this way in the long run-- the sprinter avoiding a marathon-- and when I'm older and I need a shoulder, well, maybe I'll pencil you in on a weekend; we can dive all we like in the deep end and call it a day.-jp
