May God give me the one I call a Stóirín, a Grá.

About Me

I first visited NYC with two friends for a weekend in 1994. It just happened that we ended up smack dab in the middle of the NYC Marathon. Streets were closed down and we had to find some interesting ways to maneuver through Manhattan--but this only added more fun to our adventure. The moment I arrived in Manhattan I felt a feeling like no other--I felt calm, like I had finally found my home. It took me 6 years of hard work, patience and sheer determination to finally make the move to this wonderful, crazy, thriving metropolis.
When I first arrived I was quiet and naive. Now I can and will) stick up for myself and can talk my way out of paying high prices for knock off purses or Oakley sunglasses. Ha! I love a dirty water dog from time to time; know that a coffee light and sweet is with cream and sugar and that the best deal in town can be found at Gray's Papaya when you're running low on money but need a yummy, filling meal. I know that walking may not be the fastest or convenient way of getting around, but you get to experience so much more of the city this way rather than being underground or in a cab. Although, traveling for $2 on the subway is very economical if you're in a hurry. I am a huge fan of George and Ira Gershwin and it still thrills me to listen to their music while walking down the very streets that inspired them. I complain about this place a lot, but when I think of picking up and going anywhere else I get teary-eyed. I'll know it's time to leave when I no longer cry about leaving, but cry about staying! I love to get lost in Central Park with a good picnic, a book, my journal, camera and possibly my music. Sometimes the music of the city is better.
I love NYC. As a transplant here I think I can appreciate it better than most natives. I see it from a different perspective.

My Interests

I love all things Celtic. I collect things with shamrocks on them, Celtic crosses, you name it. If it is Irish, I love it! Supporting our troops is a HUGE thing for me. I am a supporter of amillionthanks.org --- check it out and participate! Adopt some servicemembers serving overseas--letters,cards, care packages---they need our support!

Music:

How can the small flowers grow, If the wild winds blow, And the cold snow is all around?Where will the frail birds fly, If their homes on high, Have been torn down to the ground?Lift the wings, That carry me away from here and, Fill the sail, That breaks the line to home. But when I'm miles and miles apart from you, I'm beside you, when I think of you, a Stóirín, a Grá.How can a tree stand tall, If the rain won't fall, To wash its branches down? How can a heart survive, Can it stay alive, If its love's denied for long?Lift the wings, That carry me away from here and, Fill the sail, That breaks the line to home. But when I'm miles and miles apart from you, I'm beside you, when I think of you, a Stóirín, And I'm with you as I dream of you, a Stóirín, And a song will bring you near to me, a Stóirín, a Grá.The Soundtrack to "Riverdance" is my absolute favorite// Celtic Music - various artists//All things by George and Ira Gershwin// John Mayer// Depeche Mode// U2// Black Eyed Peas// Coldplay// Michael Buble'// The Rippingtons// Manhattan Transfer// 80's Music//Harry Connick,Jr.//Alanis Morrisette//Lisa Loeb//Katie McMahon//Jane Kelly Williams//Tony Bennett//Frank Sinatra// Billy Joel//Sting//The Police// My Musical Taste runs the gamut really!!
