Hip Hop without the middleman!

About Me

People call me Lotek...I think my brother Simon was the first he would joke about the equipment I was using to make my first beats and the name just stuck but its really more of a nickname than a stage name...my Mum actually calls me Wayne...I learned most of what i know either the hard way or from my parents...I've never had a mentor and i'm no-ones protege...ive never really had anyone in my corner but I will come out punching and have no intention of throwing in the towel...in fact all these experiences have just made me more determined...theres times i've looked to future and the future looked back with a smile...theres been other times that i've thought i wouldnt see my next birthday but i still closed my eyes and made a wish...I've some huge mistakes over the years..the biggest being not staking my claim to the fruits of my labour...I've been making music for nearly 15 years now...alot of the people i started out with are now big names...and thats the greatest feeling ever...knowing that it can happen...only problem is no-one seems to know how it happens but believe you me I will work it out...I met Hip Hop in 89 when she was on tour...I used to Love H.E.R. but now i'm not so sure...but her Mum; Music is still as beautiful as ever...i dont know why i wanted to start making music other than i thought i could...is there a better reason? My best memory of my time in music is handing my Parents a silver disk and seeing how proud they were of their son...I've worked with some cool people on some cool project over the years...including Roots Manuva, Mark "Chopper" Read, HKB FiNN, Ty, Blak Twang, Plutonic Lab, PS2 game "Getaway: Black Monday"...although i must say the best feeling is thinking "I made that 100%!" I love the feeling of being in the studio creating but after touring for a year I got the bug and I'm now hooked on the vibe you get from performing...thats what promted me to start my own group...i wanted to hit the road but didnt wanna have to wait for someone to invite me...or employ me to do so...and so Lotek HiFi was born...under an old bunk bed somewhere just off the Old Kent Road...kinda fitting as thats the first square in monopoly (uk version obviously) i've passed go a few times but never collected the £200 although i've never been to jail and oneday i hope to make it to mayfair!
When I formed Lotek HiFi I recruited vocalists to help sculpt my vision...
Wayne Paul, sometime black cockney football casual, raver and natural mystic, is the possessor of one of the finest reggae/street-soul singing voices this country has ever produced. Paul made a reputation for himself in the mid-nineties with his Take The Train release on Sound Of Money, which was played by the likes of Trevor Nelson, Jazzie B and Willber Wilberforce and eventually ended up on the first Fat City Mystic Brew compilation. Unfortunately for Paul, his personal life descended into a degree of chaos just as his professional life was about to take off. His triumphant return came on Roots Manuvas Revolution 5 (from Dub Come Save Me) and, as a central strand of the Lotek HiFi sound, he is determined to make up for lost time
Aurelius aka Dazzla has one of the most remarkable rapping voices youre likely to come across, deeper than a coal mine, a rich, velvety black. He also typifies something about young MCs from in and around the capital. As well as knowing his hip hop he actually made his reputation MCing live first at drum & bass events and later at UK garage nights, which is why he finds lightning double time verbalistics as easy as metaphor-laden trad-rap. But, as a true renaissance man with a bit of an eccentric side, Aurelius also plays a mean clarinet, adding licks to many of the Lotek HiFi tracks and providing yet another of the textures that makes their sound unique

Wayne Lotek NEW Album "Go"

Lotek HiFi Frontman and Producer Wayne Lotek Releases "Go"... An album recorded on tour in Europe and Mixed in Australia...also featuring some Myspace aided collaborations...

Theres not many albums that can boast Hungarian Funk, Polish Reggae and Russian Grime among its flavours so "Go" is worth checking out.

From the albums intro, produced by Australia's undisputed No.1 producer, right thru to the string laden outro than can only be described at beautiful "Go" hits all the marks and ticks all the boxes...head nodding beats? yep! wicked wordplay? yep and a rumbling reggae influence that you would associate with all of Lotek's creations.
Guest artists featured include: Dizko Stu (Hungary), Envi (Poland), Single Dread (Poland), Sena (Hungary/Ghana), Georg Korg (Russia), Fame (Australia) and Plutonic Lab (Australia)
