You Don't Know What You Got Til' It's Gone!

About Me

Mark Zanca is a Canadian singer-songwriter armed with a 6 string guitar and an arsenal of confessional songs. His approachable style & passion for music are crystallized in his live performances. His music is refreshing, combining pulsing acoustic driven pop/rock hooks, with infectious melodies & grooves. Imagine the driving instrumentation of The Goo Goo Dolls, mixed with the storytelling and intimacy of Bruce Springsteen.
Born in Montreal, Canada, Mark initiated his music and song-writing passion in high school where he played in several bands and wrote some of his first songs. What he developed along the way was a voice full of power and passion. Mark would continue to hone his chops & develop his craft. "The emphasis," he recalls fondly, "was always on the song-writing, not on the genre."
In 2004, Mark parted ways with his long time band and decided to return to his acoustic roots. He retreated to his home studio to focus on his more intimate and personal material. The following year was spent recording, arranging and producing his songs along side his twin brother Anthony. Mark's home recordings paid off for him. In 2005 He won the Canadian Radio Star National Song-writing Competition on Mix 96 in Montreal. He performed at CMW 2005 Songwriter's Festival sharing the stage with some of the best International Artists & Songwriters such as; Ron Sexsmith, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Mark Hudson, Andy Kim, Gary Baker and Gary Burr. Mark was also invited to perform at the 2005 Nashville Songwriters Festival on Music Row. 2005 also saw the release of Mark's debut EP on his own indie label. His EP received radio airplay in Canada & the US.
As a songwriter, Mark has an immense song catalogue consisting of 250+ songs. As a result he is exploring all possible avenues to expose his music. These include getting his material to other artists for recording purposes and the use of his music in TV and Film. Mark has been co-writing with a production team in NYC and is also composing for other artists. He has performed his music on several TV shows across Eastern Canada, including the Annual Telethon on CTV. Mark's music will be featured in the closing credits of a movie called "Last Hour" starring Paul Sorvino, Michael Madsen & rapper DMX. His music has also been featured on a TV series called "Urban Myths", and is being considered for use by several film companies.
Mark got a call back for a second audition for Rockstar Supernova in Toronto. He made the top 30 out of over 1200 auditions! Although Mark didn't make the final cut for the reality TV show, it proved that the sing-songwriter can rock the house!
Mark continues to perform in Canada & the US showcasing his music at several notable venues. He has presently recorded new material for his upcoming album with Producer Jordon Zadorozny who is best known for his work with Melissa Auf Der Maur (Smashing Pumkins, Hole) & Juno award winner Sam Roberts.
