(Band History
(How did the two of you meet?
(Sammon) If I remember right it was through a lad we both knew, DJ Satsta. I knew him from an old website forum I used to go on about four years ago. He mentioned Alan’s name to me.
(Hinton) Yeah, I knew him from MSN and a couple of forums, Darren, from Manchester. Top lad. He told me on MSN about giving my details to James and said I would get on well with him, as we were very similar kind of people.
(Sammon) I knew of Alan but I’d never heard any of his stuff. Although we both had been making tracks and remixing, the stuff we were doing were completely different genres, because of that our paths never met, for a short while.
(Hinton) Same here, everyone knows James for the stuff he’s done since the 90’s so we didn’t need no introductions really. What I didn’t know was how similar we actually were, I mean, we chatted on the phone and had a few drinks etc. I think we both knew after our first couple of meets how very alike we actually were.
(Sammon) We’re not only similar about our music, we’ve both had dealings with the same people and found ourselves in the same situations too!! LOLOL!!
So, how did Service Crew come about?
(Hinton) James and I basically decided we wanted to do something else, totally new in regards to the previous stuff we had done. Boredom, that’s what it was. We both had talked many an hour and we felt we had gone as far as we could with our previous aliases and tracks. I mean, we were both known in our own right, but strange as it seems we decided to move on, at the same time, from different music scenes.
(Sammon) I was making house music back in the early 90’s, and tempo-wise it wasn’t that much different to what I was hearing on the bassline scene. I had always been a bass fan; I used to go to Bass Factory when it was at Penningtons. Jourdan and Beanie put on a good night. The Boilerhouse too, the first time garage became big, I went there a few times and also Andy J’s MASSIVE 7 Wonders nights. So I suggested that maybe we should give it ago!!
(Hinton) James said he wanted to try something new, that he had been writing original material like I also had, and wanted to get them out and recorded. A lot of the old classic vocals were STILL getting re-done and sampled, we thought we would try something different and write original songs if anything just to see what happened.
What Did Happen?
(Hinton) We started writing song lyrics together and both on our own. Or sometimes James will do a verse, and I’ll do a bridge and chorus for the track.
(Sammon) Yeah, it’s the song that is important. It doesn’t matter to us who’s written it, or come up with a part, its all Service Crew, its all Hinton & Sammon.
(Hinton) Yeah, we push the name, Service Crew, by that we push each other too. We have had great support from the main players in the scene too, from DJ’s to labels and fellow producers. They have all supported our mixes which has made us want to take it as far as we can because everyone has been there for us and our stuff. You can find out more, just by checking the rest of the site out.
(Sammon) You will find out what remixes we have done and stuff, the tracks and labels and most of all that WE did THAT mix of THAT DENZIE track (sorry Part 2) LOLOL!!
(Hinton) You can also hear our track Nasty Naughty, which was written as well as sung by Sulene Fleming. It’s a very catchy track that she wrote to some music we had laid down. We have Sulene in the on site gallery too, for those who like to put a face to a name!! We also have tracks ready featuring the legendary Angie Brown with big mixes from Will Smith and Big Ang which DJ Danny Bond has been kindly battering for us in his sets. Not to mention Jayla Zee who is singing a track for us called GOOD FRIEND.
(Sammon) That Good Friend track has a killer mix by Sean Coy and Ste Gee as well as Davey Boy and Nick G. All the stuff is on the site, track samples and sound clips.
Where did you get the name Service Crew from??
(Sammon) I was sat on a train, going to Alan’s house, and there was a guy on the train, he was like a cleaner, going up and down the carriages, cleaning windows etc, on the back of his jacket it said Service Crew, and that was it, I just liked it! LOL!! I mentioned it to Alan and he like it and so it stuck!
