What can I say about me...hmmm...well first I'm a Rez gurl thru and thru! There's nothing more important to me in this life then my Culture!I had a rough life ,as did most, but unlike most I came thru my struggles with a great apprieciation for the small things in life I see life struggle's as a blessing,the reason for this is simply that everything in this life struggles even the beautiful flower's that bloom thru the warm seasons,even that flower, has to fight it's way thru the dirt in order to reach the sun and air in order to grow ,it struggles as every leaf and pettle bloom grows from it's body, but by the end of it's struggles it has grown into somthing beautiful.I often think of this example when Im struggling most ,it is a teaching that my grandma left me before moving on to her next journey,It just helps to remind me that I'm not alone in my struggles that everything on this earth struggles in order to grow,knowing this I have learned to appriciate the important things in life,my family ,culture and community.
nothing is more important to me in this life then to be there when my people need me.I give all credit to my uncle for the tradtional woman I grew up to be, if it wasnt for him I wouldn't know my traditional ways as most of us dont today.In all the chaos growing up he was the only one I could count on, he is a medcine man,my mom was a product of bording school and long with that came the drugs and drinking, so I spent most of life taking care of her and my brothers,my most peacefull moments were when my uncle would come home from being on the road for ceremonies,during his trips home between ceremonies times there were no drugs and drinking,he would tell me of his journey's and teach me what the ancestors had passed on.His teaching although they didnt take affect right away they did get thru to me,if wasnt for my uncle passing down these traditioal ways ,I believe I would not be a live today, I say this becuase Im no diffrent then any other person growning up in poverty,I sold drugs ,I ran with gangs, I use to worship money and material things,til lthe day i realized these are only things that give us false security in this world, all of the things we kill our selves to achieve in this life we cant take with us to the next, thats when I realized things had to change,and started to live my life by my triditional teacings, its not a cure all ,I still struggle, the only diffrence now is I understand my struggles and embrace them for what they are the blessing of a lesson to this life. now days i live my life for my people,past,present and future,I now have a reason to exsit in this life, I feel blessed that in all the chaos and atrostities that my people endured, that even in thier last moments they were not scared,thier last moments were spent praying for my generation, that did not exsist yet,if it hadn't been for thier prayers we would not be here at all we would have been wiped off this earth as was intented.They died with me in mind all of Native people that are here today,knowing this pushes me to make sure they know there struggle was not invain, this is the reason that my life is now dedicated to the native Movement and the work i do with in my own tribe and communtiy, there is nothing in this life that makes me happeier than to see my people smile.So it is this that pushes me to want to help make change, so that there will be a day that my Native people can walk with our heads held high and carry pride in our hearts once more...well thats enough of me for mow you want to know more you'll just have to ask;)Ness
