Simply, Born Wit ItSome people are destined for greatness from inception. They’re born with an “it†factor that sets them apart from the crowd. The members of the rap trio Born Wit It are just that great. What began as a way to pass time in the lunchroom at Cedar Grove Middle School in Decatur quickly transitioned into history in the making and the birth of Born Wit It.It’s their contrast in styles and personalities that makes Born Wit It unique. Troy “KP†Patterson is the cool and laid back one while Kevia “Snipe†Morris plays the energetic, wild man of the group. Combine that with Roderick “Nine†Williams who brings the street element to the crew and you get the core of Born Wit It.Originally called Murder Mafia, their first collaboration as a group was a song called “We Bought That Actionâ€, which was produced by Lil J formerly of Crime Mob. That record put them on the map in their native Decatur. “That song was an eastside classic let the streets tell it,†recalls KP. “DJ Scream was the first DJ to ever spin the record and it began circulating at local clubs.â€Off the success of their first single they were invited to rock parties throughout Eastside Decatur and once the song hit the Crime Mob mixtape it was recognized throughout the state of Georgia. Snipe, KP and Nine quickly outgrew the name Murda Mafia. “We recognized that we wanted to go farther than that name would take us so we wanted a name that would really describe us and also strike a question,†says Snipe. After changing their name to Born Wit It, they were introduced to their current manager KD by Nine’s older brother. KD immediately saw potential in the group, and was very impressed by a song called “Kinfolkâ€, which spoke about friends they’ve lost over time. Although his interest was peaked, it took 2 years for KD to begin working with Born Wit It. Finally, in 2004 they all collectively formed River Road Records with Born Wit It would be the flagship artist. Of the decision to work with Born Wit It KD remarks, “They are the future and they keep getting better and better. Since I’ve been working with them they’ve grown as men as well as artists.â€Born Wit It was fortunate enough to earn the respect of DJ’s early through the help of DJ Scream. Their manager also understands the importance of being endorsed by prominent DJ’s and recently partnered with DJ Holiday to co-manage the group. “They are the hardest working young men in the underground world of Hip Hop today,†DJ Holiday says when asked about the trio. In addition, many entertainment professionals and DJ’s respect and have taken note of their work ethic as well. Their current single “Fresh†has earned radio spins in the Southeast and recognition in the influential Village Voice newspaper in New York City as one of the top ten singles in 2005. The single “Stack Your Paper Up†was mentioned in Village Voice in 2007 for the end of the year review as well as listed as one of the top singles of the year. Of that single renowned industry executive TJ Chapman of TJ’s DJ’s says, “I f**k with ‘Stack Your Paper Up’. It’s not normal for me to know the lyrics to rap songs. I’m a beat and hook man, but I can rap the verses to that record.â€Born Wit It have become known for taking tracks and making them their own. Their trusted friend B-Rich gave them several tracks from Grammy Award Winning Producer DJ Toomp and once Toomps manager Bernard Parks heard what Born Wit It spit over the tracks, he gave them permission to continue recording. That first song was “Stack Your Paper Up†and they have recorded 3 more songs since with DJ Toomp. BOB, Dirty Doc, Reign Man, C-Note, and Concept Music are some of the other producers Born Wit It have worked with on their upcoming project.Along with hot records, they bring an outstanding stage performance that they’ve showcased at TJ’s DJ’s Record Pool, the Greg Street Showcase, the Almost Famous showcase, and at B-Rich’s open mic at 20 Grand, which they won for a whole year straight. Through their relationship with B-Rich, doors have opened. One of those doors had BME Recording Artist Bohagon behind it. Bohagon allowed the trio to open up shows for him in Columbus Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, where Born Wit It were well received by the crowds. Bohagon is also makes an appearance on their hit single “Fresh†due to Bohagon’s love of their delivery and lyrical abilityIn addition to mentions in Village Voice, Born Wit It have received mentions in Ozone Magazine, Streettalk Newspaper, Fader Magazine and Rolling Stone. The focus of the group is to continue to build a buzz and create leverage and then they’ll seek to land a major recording deal. They’ve been successful with local and southeast promotions and now they’re preparing to meet the nation and eventually the world. “We’re heading to the top and as long as we keep God first I see us competing with the best of them. It’s time for us to be recognized,†Snipe says with an air of confidence. Later this year they plan to release a mixtape in Germany hosted by DJ Dolla Bill and a mixtape hosted by their co-manager DJ Holiday. In the near future, DJ Scream, who was responsible for breaking their very first single, will host their upcoming mixtape “Make It or Take It.†Born Wit It hasn’t slowed down since they entered the rap scene. They’ve continued to offer quality lyrics. “We talk about what’s going on and we’re on another level with our music.†We’re the future,†KP insists. Over the past few years KP, Snipe and Nine were preparing to take over. As their name implies, the rap trio were born to do this…they’re simply Born Wit It.
