Belying his status as a narcoleptic slacker icon, John Service has proved himself to be a tireless pop songwriter with arrangements that reflect a great deal of creativity. Born in Glasgow and raised in equal measure on electronica, post-hardcore and folk music, John began recording after heading down to London and meeting the like-minded Jono Buchanan. Jono took over production duties in the studio and regularly accompanies John as part of the live set-up. Whilst often performing solo shows, the percussive genius that is old friend and collaborator Ross Maclean is also regularly called upon.
Injecting a wider range of emotions into their music than most of their guitar-based peers in the UK, Service refers to his music as "pop without the crap" without winking. Service have been busy building a loyal following, playing extensively in and around London's fashionable West End - keep an eye out for the guys in a disreputable establishment near you soon!
