" I MAKE RAP LOOK GOOD....YA DIG!!! "

About Me

Profile Pimp MySpace Layouts Contact Tables MySpace Icons MySpace Comments Refusing to jump on the sexy, female, rapper bandwagon, The Last Donna is the talk of Philly streets with her realistic music portrayal of female life in the city. As a child she spent many joyful hours reading books, playing tennis and being active in her community. But joy was often mixed with sadness because of her family life. Her parents did not have a good relationship so consequently she never had the chance to be "daddy's little girl". By the time she was seven, her father had left and her mother met and began to date an accomplished trumpet player. While polishing his skills he unknowingly gave Donna a new past time and a previously untapped musical talent was discovered. Donna practiced very hard and was an extreme perfectionist. After missing minor notes to complicated songs she would want to quit. During these times her stepfather would give her one message about trumpet and life, " Don't quit at anything, the sky is the limit to what you can do". Donna grew passionate about music and was encouraged by her mother to utilize her talents to the fullest. She experimented with percussion, string, and woodwind instruments but fell in love with the brass section, specializing in the trumpet. Donna now considers music to be the ultimate vehicle for tackling social issues and expressing one's emotions and innermost thoughts. At the age of 9 she began to perform musical arrangements and found that she had an aptitude for writing poetry and rhymes so she began to experiment with hip-hop. This experimentation became a habit and soon she was convinced that she would be a rap star. In high school, Donna continued to play the trumpet and was able to satisfy her mother's expectation when she was awarded a four-year music scholarship to Delaware State University. But Donna couldn't resist the rap battles happening on Philadelphia street corners and after school she would stay out late into the night perfecting her craft. While at Delaware State she was a member of the marching band and was afforded the opportunity to study with the world-renowned jazz musician Donald Bird. This experience gave her better insight on the composition of music and that wet her taste buds for rap even more. The college atmosphere also gave her the opportunity to perform before larger audiences than the local club scene. She won various talent shows and opened for Jay-Z and the Rocafella family, Carl Thomas, the LOX, Busta RHYMES, M.O.P, and Mobb Deep during the University Homecoming concerts.Today the music industry seems to only have room for female rappers who show more skin, than skills on the mic. But Donna's inspirations are strong, positive, and progressive individuals like MC Lyte, Public Enemy, and Sistah Soldier. Donna presents a unique and empowering image because she is street wise, educated, grounded and at the same times able to captivate audiences with her sex appeal. Donna strives to be a huge musical success but she is very intent on remaining true and giving back to her community. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. community service is now a creed that she lives by. She believes that all children should be told that the sky is the limit and that they can accomplish any goal that they work hard for. Her latest accomplishment is signing with Skys the Limit Management, which reflects her life motto. Donna has completed an outstanding demo CD and she is currently seeking a record deal. Donna is not taking her life nor her talent for granted and is poised to continue to reach for the sky in the new millennium.
