About Me

..

About Me:

I am a middle-ageing confused nitwit. However, my sensibilities earnt on the field keep me from insanity. I am often accused of being stoic. That is probably true and I rarely open up entirely. Why I am so is a long story of culture, history, time and circumstance. It would be a total bore anyway, you're wasting your time.

Born and raised in Tokyo Japan amongst the smog and ultramen for the initial seven years, then sent to England to be intensely Gary Numanized/Paul Weller'd/Garaeme Gardenised/Kenny Everett'd for the next six, things have been rather strange ever since. This is why I have a fixation to the forgotten past from the United Kingdom. It can't be helped, for my childhood was split right in half. That was amplified to be the current mess that it is. Godzilla trying to be Kraftwerk.

And here's Kenny, aka Sid Snot.. width="425" height="350" ..
The end product seems to be unique. People who do not know me often react to my behaviour as a big "???!!!", those who know me often go "ah, the usual".

Although I may look like a hardcore drinker, I am very much allergic to alcohol. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Alcohol, I like to consume in drop amounts, like fine chemicals. Three drops usually does me fine. It makes me feel a bit dozy. Five or six drops is alchoholic territory. Update Feb 2006. I have found that I can get drunk by sniffing alcohol. I tried it at a bar the other day, I got some weird stares but hey, it worked. I was drunk, so who cares. Update September 2006. I got drunk for the first time without being extremely sick. But it created such a headache that I don't think I would want to repeat the process, often. The before, during and after photos are hilarious and I am not going to show it to anyone.

I am on my third attempt to quit smoking (as of Mar 2006, month 12+ YES! but still tempting at times...... update September 2006, still managing, but still tempting, at times. sept 2007, still fancy a fag at times, but still under control). I like caffeine. No, actually, I'm addicted to caffeine. Green/black tea is nice, kinda back on coffee too. I am glad they have finally started to widely sell seltzer water in Japan, but they are usually too aromatic or too damn sterile.

In some areas of life, I am experienced and confident, comes quite naturally now. In some areas, I am immature and incapable of making decisions or think to through. However, I try to improve every day.

I split my time between Tokyo and New York. I kinda like the latter and want to move. I am involved in music. You would see me at concert venues, recording studios, and various offices. In Tokyo, I can often be seen on the 7th floor of Tower Records Shibuya, reading magazines. I try to be open minded.

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." - Hunter S. Thompson

"After one look at this planet any visitor from outer space would say "I want to see the manager." - William S. Burroughs

Who I'd like to meet:

People that know what I don't know, can do what I can't do, people who have real integrated experience, you always learn something from those people.

People with ideas AND a plan to execute it.

Also, whoever created the concept of time, we need to have a talk..........

My Interests

Music, art, certain women, exploration, geek, reading, the truth. Robbing a bank. Or a train full of gold and escaping to Brasil and hanging out with beeeer drenched fading rock stars. Probably need to exercise a bit.

but i kinda do this - http://www.minoru-yokoo.com/chronicles/
i definitely do this - http://www.youtube.com/minoruuuu

Movies:

As long as it doesn't have Arnold Schwartznegger (?) in it. and not too many blinking lights please. But Arnold governs a state larger in size than Japan. Oh, Arnold.

Television:

BBC test patterns. Or, I'd seriously pay 50 quid a month to get crap British telly from the 70's, complete with a selection from only the finest channels, BBC 1, BBC 2 and ITV. Channel 4 and onwards is so nu wave.

Books:

ooh, about 30 a year. very private stuff, like tantric seks, how to make an atomic bomb and sell it to kim, gourmet guide to the world's best cabbie eateries, mostly self help. i'm kinda insecure. nod nod, wink wink.

Heroes:

Many. People that have integrated experience and are capable of using it wisely and unwisely. People that inspire me or make me go crazy to no end.
