Transtel 78: Can't remember Rock Radio.

About Me

78 is 87 backwards. Transtel was (is?) a German broadcasting company. My generation grew up watching reruns of Derrick, TeleMatch and random pieces of information, translated, biased... oddly enough, most of the international television back in 1987 came from 1978 and kept repeating itself on an endless loop until times changed and the global economy allowed us to have decent cable.Transtel 78 is not an experiment, since most of the resources and methods used here were used by others before. Transtel 78 is not retro revisionism nor emulation. If anything, Transtel 78 is a musical endeavor that walks the thin line between hommage and sheer plagiarism, between nostalgia and blatant poseurism.Juan Herrera has been working his way around sequencers since 1998 and, finally, he's starting to get the sounds he's been looking for. It's been an excruciating decade: academic ventures, professional disasters, love stories gone wrong... but that's what Transtel 78 is all about.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: transtel78lovesme.blogspot.com
Band Members: Juan Herrera: Vocals, sequences, guitar, bass guitar.
Influences: People tend to drop a lot of names here and I feel like it, but I will bravely resist the urge. Transtel 78 was influences by the 80's and early 90's. During the Nineties, prior to the Grunge Extravaganza, the cool kids would express their undying love to the cheesiest 60's and 70's memorabilia while Juan Herrera was learning how to play guitar and tape-recorded himself playing endless jams along a drum beat from a Casiotone. So, probably, Casio was a great influence...
Sounds Like: A honest attempt of copying the sound and the atmosphere of certain 80's New Wave or Post Punk bands gone wrong.
Record Label: Sin contrato discográfico
Type of Label: Indie

An interview.

Yes... that's me in the corner... that's me in the spot... light... Actually, I just wanted to thank Marck, the cheeky monkey behind Telemite TV for the interview and the heavy editing that spared me...

It could’ve been worse.

I just had the shittiest weekend in years thanks to technology. A virus infected my computer and, well, I was barely able to recover most ot the samples and loops I've been working on for years, witho...

"Something Discrete" - Holy mothertrucker! A new song!

Who knew that one little discovery would help me hurry things up, production wise? I just found out that my soundcard is ASIO-friendly.  A couple of drivers, a twist here and there and voila: son...

If you've been following these blogs, you know posting incomplete songs makes me feel quite uneasy.  There's still some recording and mixing to do. However, I just wanted to share this song with ...

Substance (conundrums of a freeloader)

Dilemmas, dilemmas... A friend of mine (I won't say his name, otherwise he'll think I'm being unnecessarily coercitive, given the fact that he'll help me for peanuts or less and I don't want him to th...

A resolution.

It's kind of pointless and quite pretentious to talk about music I haven't had the chance to post here.  So I will refrain myself until I post something new. Anyway, stay tuned.  More things...

The real life

What is real? I cannot answer that. There are as many interpretations of the same phenomena as there are people out there. So, for discursive purposes, I'll define "reality" as all the events that ...

A bit more about Transtel 78 (and the inevitable name-dropping melee)

It's been a hectic decade since the first time I ever tried making music with a computer aside of rhythmically beating it with drumsticks.  So many things to remember, so many more to forget... I...
