FRAUSDOTS IS A GROUP...that started as a side project for Brent rademaker and Michelle Loiselle to brents group BEACHWOOD SPARKS...the band:
Spidey (aka rick "malchi" deMontronde a guy with more guitar magic than he has names former Santa cruz skate punk as well.†the guys can play guitar' and check out his solo stuff..mellow torch songs from a guy who's not shy at allRoger Brogan, the drummer.. shares a similiar past with brent as he also plays drums in the LA country rock groop the Idaho Falls...with frausdots he's exploring his rock nroll tribal skin bashing coming off like some ghost of kieth moon meets pete de fretias..that's what folks have said at shows..not some made up publicists words.Bobby Rod (aka rodreguiz).....not his real last name..he's not a porn star he's a brilliant keyboardist who is also an amazing songwriter he also moonlights with his bans the Abonimable Snowband as well as local la kid Kennedy...hi own project 'fiction company' found their way onto the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack (we think he got a grammy for that one...0oh and he;s a new dad!!!!Michelle loiselle...former industry chick turned artisan..afer many years working in the record biz she found a good niche playing and singing with brent and forming frausdotsBrent is a member of La's own Beachwood Sparks (currently on hiatus) a band that has spawned numerous offshoots (fairchild,All Night Radio,Mystic chords of Memory & tyde)
he once had a band with his brother in the early 80's called A NEW PERSONALITY...they released two ultra rare singles as well as a few compilation tracks..one of which ironically was on the then cassette only SUB POP records (see sub pop 7 1981) ANP harvested the same sonic feelings as frausdots has touched on ..mainly a love of joy division, the bunnymen, teardrop explodes, oranje juice what is now called post punk
then there was the infamous Shadowland..a decent live band lost in an identity crisis
Shadowland who released two mediocre almost unlistenable records on Geffen in the 80's
eventually morphed into FURTHER who had a very fun carreer in the Indie rock world before eventually fizzling out leaving brent to start BEachwood Sparks with Chris Gunst (a member of one of the last further line-ups who was aslo a member of the Ahead of their time group Strictly Ballroom With further alumnist Jimmy tamborello now of DNTEL and Postal Service.
Beachwood Sparks's hard work and success made it possible for many other bands including FRAUSDOTS, now a real band not just a solo veture..Frausdots is working on their second record...having played shows on the west coast w/ the unicorns, Dead meadow, the warlocks, john frusciante, neu,!!!, deerhoof, the 1/4 after, razorlight, the delays, the Shout out louds, frausdots has also lent it's music to the O.C. tv show& Americas next top modelhere'e a bit about the making of couture couture coutureAlthough the bulk of Frausdots’ material was conceived nearly three years ago on a trip to Spain with Frausdots co-conspirator Michelle Loiselle, it wasn’t until other contributors became involved that the album’s sound became fully realized. “We decided to do this when we were just friends, but we fell in love in Spain when The Cure was playing a festival—we absolutely fell in love to the strains of that one set,†Rademaker clarifies. It’s fitting for both he and Loiselle (who, among other projects, is a backup vocalist on Guns N’ Roses’ Use Your Illusion II) that The Cure’s Roger O’ Donnel contributes keyboards to Couture, Couture, Couture. , Vocalist Ned Brower, (Rooney) guitarist Benjamin Knight (The Tyde/Beachwood Sparks), guitarist Corey Lee Grant, (Warlocks) Ric Menck (Matthew Sweet/Velvet Crush), drummer Hunter Crowley (Brian Jonestown Massacre) and chanteuse Mia Doi Todd contribute. Each player’s unique and disparate stylistic touches enhance Frausdots’ chocolate-rich metropolitan tales immeasurably. “There’s a big blur between drugs, music and fashion in the city, and we were stuck in it all,†says Rademaker. The environment that nourished Rademaker’s sultry new approach to songwriting also prompted him to explore new ground in production. “There’s a tiny bit of California flare to the production, which I’m very proud of,†he asserts. Flare, indeed: Couture, Couture, Couture was recorded in the Summer of 2003 as forest fires raged in the nearby San Fernando Valley. “It was a real jump forward for me because Beachwood (Sparks) was very much into lightning-capture lo-fi. The quality conveys the emotion in the songs.†Drawing from early ‘80s rock recordings where new methodologies transformed analog equipment and instrumentation into an entirely different animal altogether, Frausdots aimed to create an album “in the vain of classic Echo and the Bunnymen…dark, rough, but precise.â€
