Florida'z Favorite Son

About Me

THE TAKEOVER CONTINUES!!!Pony Xodus (born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida) is without a doubt one of his city's most talented and promising acts on the underground scene. As with most of his peers in this movement Pony Xodus hopes to position himself in a manner that would help put Duval (Jacksonville) on the map. "The talent is definitely there." he adamantly states. "It just boils down to whether or not record labels and other industry folk trust us enough to be consisitant with not only the material we present but with ourselves. You have to have the drive, the patience and the temperment for this business." Some would suggest that Jacksonville,Florida would be a haven for musical acts, I mean this is the same city that has spawned platinum artists such as 95 SOUTH (WHOOT! THERE IT IS!), The 69 Boys (TOOTSIE ROLL), and lets not forget their alternative rock band counterparts such as: LIMP BIZKIT, YELLOWCARD, COLD, THE RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS, SHINEDOWN, ALLELE, and of course some old school country rockers by the name of LYNYRD SKYNYRD.However if the 2006 release of Pony Xodus's debut album The World According To H.I.P.H.O.P. wasn't enough of a good indication of the talent that is coming out of this city when it comes to hip-hop music, then in the double-O-7 you better get your mind ready the Florida emcee insists. Currently hard at work on the sophmore follow-up entitled: A STORY UV A BROKEN SOUL: The Sinner, The Savior (scheduled for a fall 2007 release) Pony Xodus plans to give listeners a more personal insight into his world. "The debut album as we artists like to say was the introductory." Pony Xodus says. "I wanted to let people know how skillful I could be, show that I'm capable of freakin' different styles and what not. This new album is more personal, its darker." Darker??? Kind of hard to grasp the new album being "darker" considering the lead off single for the upcoming album is the soon to be surefire underground classic "Nympho". "The buzz in the streets has been all positive for that song, and the ladies definitely feeling it." he says with a slick grin. He also explains. "See I'mma old skool hip-hop head, these new cats in the game dont motivate or impress me at all hardly, so when I'm in creative mode, my thought process is always something from back in the day,....see NYMPHO is my tribute to A TRIBE CALLED QUESTs "Electric Relaxation" only wit a little more freaky deeky. Tastefully explicit I like to call it." Tastefully explicit indeed, however the driving force of this song is the fact that its wordplay is crafty albeit a tad surprising upon ones first listen. But in today's hip-hop culture that seems to be filled with money, sex, drugs and violence it is by far nothing shocking and taboo. Although I must give Mr. Xodus props for being bold enough to tell folks in a song where he loves to stick his tongue on a woman. Definitely no kisses here ladies and gentlemen, not with those lips. But what truly sets the tone is the melodic and hypnotic beat. Old school flavor blended beautifully with a new era feel. The beat is just fast enough to get your two-step on to. It kinda has that Outkast "Elevators" or more so recently MIMs "This Is Why I'm Hot" feel to it. Just showing once again that a song doesnt have to have a beat that goes 100mph to be a hit.Pony Xodus insists that there will be a more intimate connection to his fans and supporters this time around. And although the album as he states will take a more different and darker approach, he says his supporters can still expect a couple of certified bangers to bobb their heads to. And I personally feel that if A STORY UV A BROKEN SOUL: The Sinner, The Savior is chock full of great material and catchy material like "NYMPHO" then Florida will indeed be prepared to embrace its "Favorite Son" because he is positioned to take the state straight to the top.Interview by: Camille "Cammie" Benson
