Dream Potential: Inspiration for Native Youth
As we forge our mark on the new millennium we must remember the strength of survival, the endurance and vibrant lives of our past millennia. To do this we must look to our most precious resource, our youth.
We will focus on the positive aspects of our Native American youth and also face the problems head on that our young native people face every day. In order to initiate this direction, we will accomplish these goals:
1) To travel to Native American schools to inspire through mentoring programs by bringing role models and celebrities to encourage the youth. Celebrity impacts native youth and opens doors immediately.
2) To initiate a series of conferences for the performing and media arts.
3) To shoot documentaries focusing on native youth and their unique perspectives.
4) We want this to implement a one-year college preparatory school that focuses in depth on acting, screenwriting, songwriting, camera work and much more in the media arts and performing arts with a native staff and board that specifically addresses the culture shock many native youth face when coming from the reservation to the dorm.
Our number one imperative is to create both personal and cultural self-esteem.
We have established a non-profit organization called Dream Potential: Inspiration for Native Youth with a board of directors and accounting. I have already initiated our focus by traveling throughout America researching , speaking with tribal elders, educators, cultural programs and the youth themselves on how to build a curriculum to inspire native youth .
