DJ - Producer - ReMixer - PromoterJay got the bug for House music at the tender age of 15 being influenced by the likes of Danny Rampling, Judge Jules and Pete Tong on Radio 1, DJ mag and the original Ministry of Sound annuals.
He acquired his first set of decks at 16 and after 3 months of solid practice he and Jnr. J (Hott2Deff founder) both got their first break and residencies at local bar Chevy’s. From there he honed his skills further and eventually got his second major break at Trinity’s playing again alongside Jnr. J and Kid Creole – this would eventually lead to work at all the major bars and clubs in the area.
Whilst this was going on there were many DJ influences around him thanks to nights like Golden and Reckless. DJ’s such as Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Eric Morillo and Lee Burridge were all features at these events with Jay being a regular follower watching and learning in awe. Jay’s musical influences are vast however, ranging from rare groove & funk to disco & electro and everything else in between, which have helped shape the sound you hear today.
Eventually playing out wasn’t enough, so Jay enrolled on the local music technology course developing his DJ skills further and picking up production and editing along the way. With that course completed, he again decided to develop his skills further and went to university to complete a degree music production. During his time at college and university Jay put on many music events (both “live†and “club) as well as getting his first track released (Minerva – Windows).
Although DJing took more of a back seat during his degree, Jay kept his finger firmly on the pulse music wise and came out ready & refreshed to start DJing again after passing his degree with a more soulful sound than he use to play.
It was this new sound that helped him to win a local DJ competition which lead to more work once again around the city and also inspire him to start his own night – DiscoKonspiracy. Initially meant to be a one off event, DK eventually evolved into a weekly night involving some of the areas finest talents including Jay Grooves, D’Milne and Casper Riley playing everything House.
Which is where Jay has taken his sound – playing just the best in House music; be it the latest track from Steve Angello, the hottest joint from Kerri Chandler or an all time classic from Masters at Work. HOUSE.
You can currently catch Jay at his residencies for Ministry of Sound and HedKandi in Hurghada, Egypt.More Info, Tracks & Mixes @ myspace.com/jaygroovesofficial
