THE MESSENJAH SOUND
Jah Marvin is the original founder of the sound and gave the sound it's name. Knotty Dread is spelled with a K instead of an N to show the strength and power this sound posesses. A knot is firm, tight, secure and cant loose or be broken.....just as our faith is in the Most High Jah! The Dread comes in because the fiyah we blaze in our music is terrible and dreadful in the site of Babylon, all evil, and workers of iniquity. Rasta Keith founder of Major Link Records (also affiliated with Knotty Dread sound) later on added the "FI-EVAH" to the title because the Message InI spread thru reggae music will carry on FI-EVAH. The message of LOVE, TRUTH, AND RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Knotty Dread is from the beginning of time. Moses, Yeshua, King Solomon, etc...these Rasta men were all Knotty Dread; spreading Jah's message thru out the Earth. Even King David played chune on his harp to teach the yutes, and give praises to The Most High Jah Rastafari! This continuted straight down the line to Jacob Miller, and Bob Marley, all the way till the year of 1996 when Fatta Ranks (sound owner/manager) and Jah Marvin (sound owner/selector) manifested Knotty Dread Fi-Evah here in Washington Dc. In the year of 2002 Luciano aka Jah Messenjah...gave the sound the title " The Messenjah Sound."
Last year prior to winning Dc Bloodbath sound clash Luciano gave the sound another title... "Defender of the Sound, Defender of the Music...Defender of the positiveness in the music." Knotty Dread Fi-Evah is still keeping that fiyah blazing today by spreading thier message globaly thru thier enourmous catelouge of exclusive dubplates and Mixtape cd's. Whether it's the Blessings volumes for all lovers of conscious music, or the Dancehall Maddness series.... Knotty Dread mixes are guaranteed to either feed your mind, body, and soul with a firm meditation...or keep you jiggy with the latest in dancehall music. Knotty Dreads mixtape cd's are making such a heavy inpact on the industry, that they can be found bootlegged in stores, websites, or streets in NY, Florida, London, Japan among other cities and countries.
Knotty Dread has played alongside some of the best sounds known in the reggae industry...Black Kat, Bass Odessey, Swatch int, Kilamanjaro, David Rodigan, Steelie Bashment, Stonelove, and many others. Knotty Dread has also toured with artist such as Freddy Mc Gregor, Marcia Griffiths, Lenn Hammond, Mikey General, and Luciano...just to name a few. In 2003 the sound opened another branch in St. Thomas Jamaica...home of co-owner/manager Fatta Ranks. Gbaby & Hype are the current selectors of the sound there..and can been seen weekly at various events thruout the island. Knotty Dread is looking forward to opening a branch in Ghana as well (home of Jah Marvin) in the near future, and has plans to take the sound on a complete tour of Africa.. as well as other foreign countries. The sounds main goal is to become a household name in every home across the world. The Music is just the start...look out for our Record label, clothing line, upcoming DVD and much much more!
Knotty Dread's message to the people is plain and simple. MUSIC is LOVE, and LOVE IS JAH. There is nothing wrong with keepin it Jiggy, ..till you cant jiggy no more. At the same time...there is a time and place for everything. In all things there must be a Balance...and our mission is to make sure everyting well balance!! Keep Jah inna yu head..and love inna yu heart! Knotty Dread has a mission to spread Love, Truth, and Righteousness in the dancehall. Knotty Dread wants the fans to to remember who made it possible for them to keep it jiggy this morning...or willie bounce all last night.
