Hollie Jett

"I wanna open for Lyle Lovett."

About Me

Hollie Jett was born in Rosie, Arkansas and was raised around music all of her life. She was singing and dancing long before she knew what it was to be singing and dancing. Her father, Harvey Jett, was the lead guitarist and principle songwriter for the 70'southern rock-and-roll band, Black Oak Arkansas. This Atlantic Records act first received nationwide attention during a 50-city tour with the legendary group Iron Butterfly. They had opening acts such as Bruce Springsteen and KISS. Out of their six albums, three went gold and one platinum. Their most well-known song, Jim Dandy To The Rescue, was a Top 30 single, and appeared in several movie soundtracks, including the pop culture hit Dazed and Confused. Touring every major city in the US and Europe, they shared the stage with acts like Fleetwood Mac, Blackfoot, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Peter Frampton, Kansas, Black Sabbath, and the Eagles to name a few. On her mother's side of the family, her late grandfather and great-uncle, Alton Lumpkin and "Little Troy" Lumpkin, were the famous brothers from Atlanta that would draw large crowds when they were just eight and ten years old playing bluegrass and gospel in Atlanta and Memphis. They were paid to play and sing on the back of flatbed trucks and ride with polititions through town. As adults, they went on to sing and tour with the gospel group The LeFevres, who were nominated for several Grammy Awards. After attending Old Miss, in Oxford, MS for several years, Hollie packed up and moved to Los Angeles on a whim by herself and lived there for two years. After meeting a talent agent on the street while shopping, she got a chance to appear on the set of The Drew Carey Show her second day in town, along with Bo Derek. Soon after, she found an agent and appeared on several other programs throughout the year like Friends, Dharma and Greg, CSI, several Disney Channel shows, Gilmore Girls and Scrubs to name a few. Hollie Jett, the songwriter, has been writing her own music since her days of singing in the foggy mirror of the bathroom. She first performed on stage with her parents at six. Her imaginative lyrics are enticing and refined as her melodies will sweep you off of your feet. After meeting and singing demos for a producer in Los Angeles for fun, he urged her to take her country voice and sound to Nashville. Deciding to be closer to home as well as following in her family's footsteps, she shifted south. Hollie is presently continuing to write and perform in Nashville with her five-piece jazz/country band. She plays piano, guitar, mandolin, and harmonica.Myspace For Girls Only - MyGirlySpace.com

Band Members: I have several talented people that I use here in Nashville. Shaun Bayles-lead guitar and dobro, Frank Reynolds-bass, Kevin Fogarty-percussion, Ben Massey-mandolin and banjo, and Beau Tackett on jazz guitar occasionally. And sometimes Joel Shoemake on acoustic guitar, and sometimes Kevin Hawkins on drums. Basically, whoever wants to play. At one time I thought about calling it "Hollie Jett And The Who- Shows-Up Band." Or maybe it's "Hollie Jett and The Nash-Hattan Band." Does it really matter?
Influences: I'll just start rambling here.....Big Band, Swing, Jazz/Blues in general, Bjork, Whiskeytown, Dave Brubeck, Blind Boys of Alabama, Pete Yorn, The Killers, Tori Amos, Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartney, Primus, Elliot Smith, Peggy Lee, Josephine Baker, Julian Verlard, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Tower of Power, Loretta Lynn, Time Jumpers from Nashville, Etta James, Nina Simone, Sophie B. Hawkins, George Jones, Glenn Miller, Radiohead, Miles Davis, Lyle Lovett, Diana Krall.... that's all I can think of for now, there are just too many.
