About Me

Check out all of my musician and artist friends...some I know personally...many others I like to support by posting them in my friend space...it is our duty to honor each other. A word to all of you: please be humble...it is not easy with such talent, but please keep trying. My hometown was Brodhead (of which I sing)...along the Sugar River in beautiful southern Wisconsin. I learned to play guitar out on my mom's front porch and have liked it ever since (an honest attempt). I like to try and write songs...maybe I'll improve as time goes by, especially now that my kids are out of the house:)

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/mavelocity
Band Members: usually just myself...sometimes accompanied by my husband, Charlie, and/or our son, Benson
Influences: Dave Koebel at Roots Music Store in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin; Leo Kottke and one of his guitar students by the name of Daniel Hecht, with whom I took lessons from back in 1974. First I was influenced by my brother, James (Jimmy) Kjelland, who currently is a music professor at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois - he taught me my very first guitar piece out on the front porch of our family home...other influences include: my husband (he makes me practice bar chords), Benson Klemme (my producer and brilliant at pulling music together), Beth Klemme (a velvety, hauntingly beautiful voice), Laura Klemme (brilliant and fantastic songwriter...you're so humble), Court Ramaeker (he can play stringed instruments to perfection), Dan Valliancourt ("Leo Kottke, move over" and Dan is a great one man band:), Eric Nassau (like a living, breathing Pete Seeger, Jana Holland (you and Craig will be bringing joy to a lot of people at Life Fest! Jana, you know I love your minor tones), Susanna ("Winter Took His Life"...you are such a brilliant songwriter), Reverend Eddie Danger (creative genius), Megan Palmer (she sings and plays fiddle and could be in any band she wants!), Nancy Griffith, Patchouli (loved you guys from the first time I heard you just tuning up!) and can't forget my jamming buddies: Linda Langum, John P. Higgins (check his music on his myspace), Fred, Marlyn, Pete and Tom (also known as Tom and Pete), among so many others....

just a thought

Now that my kids are grown, I'm getting to know each of them as adults...they are getting to know me as a real person...not just "mom" anymore....(well, "Ma Velocity" that is, but I hope to become "Gr...
