We are a non-corporate Coffee House & Cyber Cafe' in Tulsa, Ok. We have a very unique personality and diverse crowd. A laid back atmosphere, with several leather couches, chess tables, fireplace , library of books , free Wi-Fi access, computers to check e-mails and much more . Not to forget the best gourmet coffee drinks in town, French Presses, fine deli-style food and the largest selection of loose leaf & bagged teas in Tulsa. Several mouth watering desserts to tantalize your taste buds after the theater or just to hide away from the rush of the day. We are a smoke free environment. We are proud to host the longest continually running Weekly Open Mic. Night, 8 years running.Live acoustic music with all original music , no covers, every Friday & Saturday nights usually around 10pm , all free. We have strived to create an atmosphere like a living room , one where everyone is welcome, regardless of color, creed, or orientation. A place where the arts can flourish uncensored and free speech can be the norm instead of the gross censorship I personally have seen here in the arts scene, this does not make me the most liked person in Tulsa , but so be it, I'm ok with that . You can please some of them some of the time but not everyone all the time . Even though I try. I have endeavored to stay out of the way and let the art its-self be expressed in what ever form it may take, and believe it or not the most grief I have received has been from the artists themselves , what the F%@*. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. We celebrate the diversity of the human species. Free speech now in America. All I can say is ,,,,,,,,Walk in Peace, I am no mans judge .B AFTER SOME PICS OF THE GYPSY . AWARENESS IS EVERYTHING.
TERRY AZIERE In the tradition of singer/songwriters-I subscribe to the "less is more" school of thought. Acoustic guitar based songwriting to me is a pure art form where electronic manipulation is not needed to create a contemporary work of art. A Pisces, born in Atchison, Kansas on the banks of the Missouri River in 1958 when the town was devastated by a flood. A Navy veteran in the medical department. A registered Respiratory Therapist, my 30 year medical career ended in 2006. Diagnosed in 2000 with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis, I now play music in the Folk Group at St PiusX Catholic church every Sat. evening Mass and the Hispanic Missa on Sunday evening. I host an Open Mic every other Tuesday at Gypsy Coffee House in downtown Tulsa, perform there one weekend a month as well. I am a member of The Guitar Society of Tulsa. A day will come when I won't be able to play and perform anymore and so I will continue to play daily-anywhere as long as I am able. I do not want to be a ruefull old man wishing I played more while I was able. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////K- OTIC SERENITY... ...... JUST SIGNED WITH DC ARTIST AGENCY............. When asked what do you stand for? Lead vocal Bobby Smith had much to say. "We stand for all of the young people searching for a peace in the middle of the storm". "It does exist"! As K-otic serenity began playing together just a few years ago. They were in a deep search for a name that was more than just a title but was a great discription of who they were or what they have been through. "In the beginning we played at Level Seven(a youth Ministry in north east Oklahoma) on Wednesday night". said drummer Josh Dotson. From there things broke wide open. Besides some studio time they have not slowed down. Bobby Mc micheal adds. "We hope to expand our opportunities to minister at local vinues and events". //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// What is Murzik? In the vein of groups such as gypsy punks Gogol Bordello and klezmer revivalists DeVotchKa; Murzik creates music that is exactly what you would expect. It is beautiful, soothing, sensual, quiet, quite pretty, a little bit naughty and more than a tad Russian at times. The band employs saxophones, accordions, mandolins, bells and glockenspiel along with more standard instruments of popular music such as bass, drums and acoustic guitar. With their unique instrumentation and well-wrought and introspective lyrics Murzik carves a dark sonic soundscape that is reminiscent of a list of analogous contemporary predecessors often bringing to mind comparisons to the work of Nick Drake, Tom Waits, or Joy Division. When putting all relative and obvious comparisons to rest it becomes astoundingly clear that Murzik's music stands on its own. Haunched squarely upon the shear strength of its unique and exquisite sonic beauty, brash confident daring and its undeniable charm, it is meant as a centerpiece juxtaposed to the dcor of an incredibly well manicured record collection. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////WENDY NICHOL In a time where music seems to lose its soul and purpose, it's rare to find such a refreshing, honest, and bold individual to lift back up the spirit of music. Wendy Nichol captivates the listening audience with her soulful style of music ranging from folk all the way to hip hop. Born in Houston, Wendy began writing poetry at the age of 11 as an outlet to releasing her thoughts and emotions. In high school, she began singing and unknowingly preparing herself for what would eventually be a passion in life. Soon after, she furthered her gift by picking up the guitar and found herself playing anywhere and everywhere. From concert venues, to open mics, or even your grandmothers living room, Wendy plays with an energy that draws audiences. It is very easy to see the cultural depth this young artist possesses in the midst of her music. Whether living in Mexico or traveling the country, her music expresses the experience from her life and easily knocks down barriers allowing anyone to relate and feel the music. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////// AUTUMN SHADE jes lenee' wrote music and felt compelled to play it. she found a boy named wesly who would beat drums. there was even more than music while she played, there was a whole world that opened up visually so while she was walking down the hill there was another boy, derick, with a paint brush who liked music. he began to paint pictures on a canvas behind them as they played. jes and derick journeyed to many places around earth playing music and had a nice time. when they came back there was natile sitting in the apple tree with her cello. "we asked her to play with us and now we are a band." Look for Autumn Shade //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////// ADAM LOPEZ A conglomerate of styles, sounds, and approach. Rooted in the early Delta blues style of soul baring and experience sharing. A jazzman at heart, unafraid to venture into the unknown. A player in the moment. An old soul determined to bring people together thru the beauty of story and song. Nourished on the music of "power to the people". From the early Motown era, to the classic run that started with Stevie Wonder's "Music Of My Mind" and ended with Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On". Mesmerized by the classic funk of James Brown and the Meters, electrified by Jimi Hendrix. Spiritualized thru the eyes of Bob Marley and Curtis Mayfield. Simplified by the directness and honesty of Bill Withers. This is Adam Lopez. A 30 year old singer/song writer born & bred in Southern California to a family of musicians and artists. A true conglomerate of styles, sounds, and approach. Peace. P.S. THE SONGS ON THE PLAYER ARE ROUGH DEMOS FROM THE UPCOMING ALBUM: STRANDED IN BABYLON...LOOK FOR IT LATE '05 / EARLY '06. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// BRIAN PARTON I'm a rockin' m-m-mutha based in Tulsa, OK. I love the place and would call it my home town because I've lived here longer than anywhere else. But born-in-bred old money Tulsans are kind of funny about that sort of thing...... I'm a solo artist - singer/guitar/songwriter. My current CD is "Unbridled", released in 2004. The CD release show was pretty great - February 13, 2004 at Tulsa's Deadtown Tavern- it was a Friday the 13th Valentine's show and much misbehaving ensued. I've played about 200 or so shows since - Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Colorado mostly...... But a label/management deal would be supreme. Then my music could get out there in a big way 'cause I got something to say, g'dammit!..... In case yer wonderin', I'm not related to Dolly (but I am a fan). My gitar-playing dad was from East Tennessee, though////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ////////ALL SHOWS START @ 10PMAnd as usual no cover, and no cover songs , please tell your friends about us, here, we need the business and love to bring such talented artists to Tulsa's scene. LARGEST HOT TEA SELECTION IN TOWN! Filtering the Facts: 7 Fresh Perks from Coffee Posted: June 1, 2007 More from EatingWell.com Coffee lovers may be raising their cups at the growing stream of positive news about their favorite drink. For healthy adults, having two or three cups of joe daily generally isn’t harmful and it may have health perks. Some recent findings even suggest that coffee may help lower the risk of diseases like diabetes and heart disease. A cup of coffee contains about 1 gram of soluble fiber, the type that can help lower cholesterol, according to a recent report in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Recent Harvard studies, involving more than 193,000 people, found that regular coffee drinkers had a significantly lower risk of type 2 diabetes than those who abstained. The more they drank, the lower their risk. Despite coffee’s reputation for being bad for the heart, recent epidemiologic studies haven’t found a connection; some even suggest coffee can be protective. A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that healthy people 65 and over who drank four or more cups of caffeinated beverages daily (primarily coffee) had a 53 percent lower risk of heart disease than non-coffee-drinkers. Coffee has more antioxidants per serving than blueberries do, making it the top source of antioxidants in our diets. Antioxidants help quell inflammation, which might explain coffee’s effect in inflammation-related diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Magnesium found in coffee might help make cells more sensitive to insulin (increased insulin sensitivity results in healthier blood glucose levels). Caffeine seems to have its own beneficial effects; the diabetes studies found that those who drank regular coffee had lower risks of the disease than decaf drinkers. Caffeinated-coffee drinking has also been linked with reduced risk of Parkinson’s disease, gallstones, cirrhosis and liver cancer. Bottom Line: For most people who enjoy coffee, there’s no reason to cut back; there may even be health benefits. However, for some, exceeding one’s caffeine tolerance—which varies—can cause irritability, headache and insomnia. The temporary rise in heart rate and blood pressure could cause problems for people with heart disease, and new moms should be aware that caffeine passes into breast milk.

Books:

Hello, my name is Nathan Wright. I entered the music scene less than a year ago, when I sporatically decided I should write something up pretty quick and play at the Gypsy Coffee House's open mike night. Well, they liked me, and I've been writing ever since. I've been trying my best in every aspect, continuing to build my technique, better my writing skills, and play at places from the bottom, up. I released a very simple demo of some of my songs in the middle of '05, and I have justs recently started on my new album that will be much more full and marvelous sounding. Give me your support! Nothing motivates me more than YOU! Thank You. -N- //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////The short version:I am Jonas Adrian , I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and play frequently at The Gypsy and other local venues. I have a percussive style and write about a variety of subjects ranging from addiction, politics and fallen women. I am often backed by the dynamic duo of Bruce and Tab who make me look better than I really have a right to. / The not so short version: mainly a lyricist and singer but not much on the instrument side of things. I've always had words and lyrics running around my head even when I tried not to think of them. July of 2004 I started getting all these ideas bouncing around my head that I couldn't escape. One day I picked up an old guitar that had been given to me but rarely used and started messing around with chords and lyrics. I couldn't stop after that. I decided to stop making excuses as to why I can't make the music I want to make. I started out not daring to dream very big. I decided that it would be just fine if I stayed in my back room and annoyed the rest of my family with my tinkering. Finally I had some songs that I really wanted to play for some other folks. I told my friend Mark and he said "Great you're the entertainment at my get together this weekend!". After that happened I received some gentle nudges from my wife and Mark to play an open mic night somwhere. To quote Mark "I think you need to get in front of some people to crash and burn a few times. It's the only way you'll learn." He was right. I showed up a the Gypsy open mic and got up in front of everyone with hands that wouldn't stop shaking. I haven't stopped since.////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////// It was a wistful thursday night and I sat down at the old stand-up piano at the smoke filled coffee shop. I had never played in front of anyone before. god only knows my parents never encouraged anything like it. I began playing for two reasons. the first was that it was there and I was curious, the second was that (and here I believe this is the better of the two reasons) I was inspired. so inspiration comes once and if more then seldom in ones life. and I played the piano. for the first time since I was a child, and I liked what I heard. droning and enigmatic, and yet somehow the puzzle seemed to fit together. the audience didn't mind the missed notes here and there, they were enraptured. maybe it was divine. maybe it was the emotion of the moment, but something happened in the twenty or thirty minutes that I serenaded these few people. I was touched with the power to make. to create. and to share. I will take this feeling with me wherever I go and give it away to the world, for I have never felt anything like it. -pauly hart//////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////// This is one of the best coffee houses in America! Heroes:

Coffee first arrived on the European continent by means of Venetian trade merchants. Once in Europe this new beverage fell under harsh criticism from the Catholic church. Many felt the pope should ban coffee, calling it the drink of the devil. To their surprise, the pope, already a coffee drinker, blessed coffee declaring it a truly Christian beverage.
