// 3. 1980, Huy, Belgium
// 4. 1982, Paris, France
// 5. 1992, Los Angeles, California
2. Rewind (to before the Abduction)
Paris, France, Winter 1984.
First contact with that new experimental "Techno" music?!?! Made by unknown or legendary electronic bands like: Front 242, Kraftwerk, Art of Noise, Vox Populi, The Buggles, Devo, etc
It was way back then... And this new incredible soundtrack to my life took over without my own knowledge...
In the beginning, it all sounded to me like random electronic "noises" which generated a huge pulsing headache within 30 minutes... Well, I had to to do something to dull the thumping pain... So, in keeping with one of the greatest french tradition (or rather "worldwide tradition"), I found my way to the drinks and got FUBAR drunk!!!
It was during France's emerging Rave scene with the "Acid House" leading the global beats...
It was after one of the Alternative Rock concerts where I spent most of my teens... from U2 to Jane's Addiction to The Cure to Pink Floyd to many more... But my first "Live" experience was a smokin' Reggae concert featuring Steel Pulse headlining under a huge circus tent... "One Love One People"...
Anyway, it took about 2 more years and another dozen Raves to finally convert me to this new musical and technological culture: The Rave Culture... And that was the beginning of a new weird "Rock'N'Rave" slice of my life as part-time field promoter... By going to the local Alternative Rock concerts almost every week, once a while, i got hired to promote Rave flyers to the crowd leaving (working in exchange for free guestlist for me and friends)... I guessed that was a taste of things to come...
In the summer of 1997,
I founded "Neo Sapiens", an entity dedicated to keep our Culture alive & kicking. Since then, beside the business of running the Neo Sapiens, I've been passing flyers to a yearly average of 60+ gatherings such as: Warehouse Parties, Trendy Clubs, Special Events, Massive Festivals, etc... More than half of all the Fridays & Saturdays in the year... with only 104 party nights = 52 weekends x 2 nights (not including the extra random dates during the week)... Duh, I lost the exact count a long time ago. I guess that I went to 600+ events related to our Culture, inside the "Twilight Zone"!!!
And for the last 15 years, 90% of my daily music intake is made of all kinds of beats & melodies from Rave... It still amazed me how some talented artists can put a "soul" into the cold electronic machines (needed to create a Rave track). "Smile! You are raving!"!!!
3. United States of Earth
In 1990, I felt the need to expand my horizon(s) with one more global move... Within a year, I saved enough money to pay for a 5-week stay in the USA... That 1991's trip helped me in selecting the city where to "Be Born Again" (just kidding). It was in between: New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco...
Well, in July 1992, I moved to Los Angeles. It was only few months after the crazy Los Angeles riots in April!!! For the few first months, I stayed at different hostels and at places spared by new friends... I settled in Venice Beach in 1993... After a couple years of "Bar Flying", I started to promote again in 1994. With few other people, I co-founded and worked with 2 crews: "GOA TRANCE MIND TRIP" 1994-1996, then "SIXTH SENSE" 1996-1997 (they were 2 worthy learning lessons)... Anyway, I had to adapt to the situation and evolve once again. So, after thinking about our natural human evolution, I started "NEO SAPIENS" in October 1997 as an entity fully dedicated to the creative Energy of our beloved Culture in bringing people TOGETHER WITHOUT PREJUDICE 4. _ Here's one of my favorite quotes about our shared Humanity:
"The mark of an immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause,
while the mark of a mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one!"
