I am a 70-miles-in-a-week running beast! (Don't let the gin-tini fool you)

About Me

Hi, I'm Katie, I am an avid runner and a proud Detroit-er, having lived downtown for the last 2 years now. I absolutely love downtown life, although it has its complications.
UPDATE: Finally cracked the 3:10 mark as I officially became a sub-3:10 marathoner in my 5th Boston Marathon!I am a veteran of 13 marathons now, and I finally achieved a huge goal of going sub-3:10 in my marathon on April 21st, 2008 (two weeks after going sub-1:30 in my half - watch out for me this summer!) I now out-qualify many of the men that run Boston :) ...Next marathon is Chicago in October 2008, but I have a lot of other events planned in between then. I will be doing the bad-ass 3-day Great Lakes running relay in July, and I intend to hit the trifecta of my running PRs by cracking a 40-min 10K this summer - should be easy after hitting the big ones, right?
    My current PRs (Personal Records) are: Marathon (Boston 4/21/2008) - 3:07:08 (7:09 pace) Half-Marathon (Martian 4/6/2008) - 1:27:02 (6:39 pace) 10 Mile (Crim 2007) - 1:08:14 (6:49 pace) 10K (Run Like the Wind 2006) - 40:10 (6:27 pace) 5K - don't really race it, probably ~ 19:30

My Interests

Running, of course :). The outdoors, being on the waterfront, walking through art festivals, exploring new bars and spots around Detroit, cuddling with my cat Dhaslim, enjoying a Starbucks on a weekend morning, lazing around in bed on a weekend morning when you have the right company...

I'd like to meet:

More girls who can run a 7:00 pace and like to go out! I am slowly expanding my repertoire of female running buddies that are awesome to hang with, and it has taken some time but I must say it's so refreshing to have some more girls around to help me battle my testosterone-laden training partners!I also love to meet fellow Detroiters and people who want to have an intelligent conversation that might make me think outside the box a bit. Warning - I can be a bit bossy and argumentative, so you gotta put some thought behind what you say or I'll argue you in circles.

Music:

Mariah, Keyshia Cole, T.I., anything involving Timbaland... Gotta love R. Kelly just cause he came through the crib!

Movies:

Ratatouille! Um, Pulp Fiction is always a classic. And I like Sugar and Spice (sorry, I'm a girl). Oh - Fast and Furious (my car is named Letti, if that tells you anything). Michelle Rodriguez can throw a mean punch, I love that.

Television:

Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break... Wentworth Miller is plastered across my fridge and stares me down lovingly every time I fetch a snack :)

Books:

"Drowning Ruth" - fantastic sister-book; "Pillars of the Earth", "Season of Passage"

Heroes:

Deena Kastor, my sister :)

RE: Cosmo's article, "Couple Fights From Hell"

So I just read this article from Cosmo (Oct 2006) titled, "Couple Fights From Hell".  The subtitle was "Read on as men and women describe their biggest blowouts... and be glad they didn...

Follow up to 65 Miles: Apology to random bar guy

Apparently my aching muscles are not enough to actually stop me from running, and I was able to get out and do 15.5 miles along Lake Michigan.  Then again, perhaps being in Chicago and having the...

65 Miles

Yes, I ran 65 miles last week and set a new weekly mileage high (I think the previous record was like 62).  This week I am very sore.  I swear, trying to hit 55 miles this week is going to b...

10Ks and Tigers and TV-time

So I won two more races this summer the Run Like the Wind 10K (40:11) back on 9/2/06 and the Red October 10K this past Sunday, in a questionable PR of 40:43 on a course that clocked 6.3 miles (and h...

Mariah love

I love Mariah Carey.  Especially when I am drunk.  I mean, she just wails.  Yeah, she dresses a little skimpy, but we're gonna work on that, when she calls me back.  She might be a...

Melon Champion Cruises Through Crim

So I got on this little racing kick when my running buddies dragged me to the Run Thru Hell 10-miler two weeks ago.  It was supposed to be part of our training plan, and I ran it hard but I didn'...
