Music (listening/collecting/ playing/ history of). Spending time with my awesome girlfriend Kim who is everything I ever looked for in a woman. Pets (Spooky is the sentinel beast of all felines. I also have a 17(!!)-year-old African water frog). Cool movies. Old school video games (see blog). The outdoors (walks/ reflection, camping out when I can, frisbee, observing nature, etc.), hanging out with friends, going to shows, getting loaded, talking to fellow metallers and music lovers online, George Carlin's stand-up comedy, psychological theories/ discussions, resistance of government and society's legacy of corruption.
Open-minded people that share interests, and/or other members of The Metal Roster (the list of true metal acolytes engraved in medieval calligraphy on gleaming pages of steel) - haha, thanks to theonion.com for that concept.
Mainly dig old school heavy metal, it has been a passion since I was 12. Stuff like early Metallica (cough, sellouts!), Megadeth, and Slayer started me on it, and it's been a nonstop snowball effect since then. I'm as interested in it now as I ever was, and would say I'm for sure a metal "lifer." I originally got into rock music at age 4 when I spun my first records Jethro Tull "Aqualung," Boston "self titled," Moody Blues "In Search of the Lost Chord," and Styx "The Grand Illusion" regularly. I took up the guitar in late '95 (had played piano since '88) and am currently playing a metallic silver Washburn Rogue Star. I have been a serious music collector for over a decade (personal collection exceeds 6,000 titles on CD, CDR, cassette, and vinyl of both signed and demo material. Mostly, but far from limited to: speed, thrash, traditional, power, and early death metal. For potential cdr or tape trades give me an e-mail.) I also love certain prog/psyche/classic rock bands of the late 60s/70s. A minimal amount of my collection is from mp3 source, and what is comes mostly from the bands' websites that have their material for free download. I have also collected about 250 metal t-shirts including many 80s originals from bands like King Diamond, Indestructible Noise Command, Ruthless, Exciter, Sodom, Metal Church, Possessed, Nuclear Assault, Coroner, Nasty Savage, Death, Preacher, Bloodcum, Acrophet, Dark Angel, Devastation, Anthrax, Forbidden, Atrophy, Prime Evil, Destruction, OverKill, Flotsam and Jetsam, Slayer, and many more. MySpace site name Dungeon Beast came from the band name I recorded the "Skeletal Assailants" EP under(rhythm/ lead guitar and bass) when I lived in Washington State. Check my blog for more info on DB. I also did guest lead guitar for my friend's old school rawkin' metal band Silver Chrome's 9-song "Forward Soul" demo in summer of '05. Currently playing guitar for Effigy(pa) with some old high school friends (we recorded a 5-song demo in January '05 entitled "Vilification"), as well as a for-fun band Toxic Dogs. If you'd like more info or would like to hear any of these projects feel free to send me a message.
Rivers Edge, Trick or Treat, Willow, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Detroit Rock City, FUBAR, Heavy Metal (the original), Stand By Me, Orgazmo, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Halloween, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, The Big Lebowski, Indiana Jones trilogy, Cheech and Chong's first 3 movies, Beastmaster, Silent Hill, The Princess Bride, Gremlins, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, The Stand, ReAnimator, The Crow, This Is Spinal Tap, Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God, and many more. Of course any good metal band videos as well.
is primarily a waste of time. 95% of it is crap even before factoring in the commercials.
Though I like reading, I rarely get around to doing it. Stephen King kicks ass.
Aragorn, King Diamond (for the awesome and still ongoing career), those who possess amazing musical abilities, and humble metalheads who don't bail out on their beliefs or develop egos over the test of time.
