"He forgot that he'd promised himself to be careful, to always stand apart and alone where the ground was solid and familiar and moulded like old shoes into the shapes of his feet...He spun and somersaulted through the days with her, so dizzy with astonished joy that upside-down felt much the same as right-way up. He felt as though he had flung open a window in the middle of winter to find summer sprawled upon the lawn. Her warmth seeped into him like sunshine."

I read a lot of nonfiction military history, ranging from WWII to a recent facination with ancient times. For a lighter read, I couldn't more highly reccommend the "A song of ice and fire" series written by George R.R. Martin. Robert Jordan's "The wheel of time" series was great as well. Also: The neverending story, various Dave Barry rantings, The dark tower series (the 4th one anyway). I've recently read innumerable and facinating biographies of the great men of rome.
Decent people everywhere.
