Jon Viera Biography
(Escuro Recordings/ Baixo Recordings)
A veteran of all things house, Jon Viera has been involved in the music scene one way or another for the last 17 years.
Jon started listening to electronic dance music when he was at the young age of 13. A friend of his had some mix tapes from his older brother. They were filled with things that he had never heard before. Breaks, House, Techno, a title meant nothing to Jon as long as the tracks held a deep bass line and a strong rhythm. After spending countless hours at home listening to mix tapes he started to collect flyers from the local area, as he was to young to go to the local raves in Tampa. Soon, at the young age of fourteen he started to sneak into many of the local events. His love for music grew with his age. And his taste matured from the broken beats of Miami to the tribal elements of Portugal and New York.
Jon started his record collection in 1990 and he has not looked back since. With a collection of over 8000 records, he spent many weeks listening to vinyl over and over again. He started dj'ing a little over 6 years ago as a result of wanting to share his taste in music. As production equipment started to become more modernized he stepped into the studio. In the early spring days of 2005, Jon had a vision of creating a record label that merged the talents of veteran producers with the unknown and aspiring beat makers of the globe. What was created was Escuro Recordings. With percussion filled tracks fueled by moody bass lines and a dark edge, they hope to bring you quality house music from his Boston based label.
Influences include Antonio Pereira, Carlos Manaca, Danny Tenaglia, Marcello Castelli, Manny Ferreiros and Carl Cox among others. House music is his love, techno is his mistress.
Support from the likes of FC Nond, Carlos Manaca, Miss Sheila, DJ Tomer, Dot Matrix, Keven Maroda, Mike Kings, and Redkone have helped push his productions and his record labels into a subwoofer near you.
Jon Viera also produces under the monikers of Mateo Ruas and "The Soul Takers".
Jon has also been a freelance writer for these publications:
Dance Front Door (UK/Global)
DanceMusic.About.com (US/Global)
Innerphase NY (NY/Global)
And now currently writes for:
Big Shot Magazine (NY)

Escuro Recordings Biography
In the early spring days of 2005, Jon Viera had a vision of creating a record label that merged the talents of veteran producers with the unknown and aspiring beat makers of the globe. What was created was Escuro Recordings. With percussion filled tracks fueled by moody bass lines and a dark edge, they hope to bring you quality house music from their Boston based label.
Escuro Recordings’ first release was made by the talented Keven Maroda; the track is a deep acid tribal bomber entitled "The Freq". Keven’s first track received major support from Carlos Manaca, Jaimy, Craig Mitchell and more. For the second release they wanted a different sound, and landed upon DJ Tomer with his track “U Don’t Know Meâ€, which filled the deep corners of many clubs with the original and was complemented by the Dot Matrix remix titled, “Supercharged Rewerk.â€
Stepping away from the New York sound, Jon hit upon Escuro’s next release, “Lost†with the amazing duo known as Redkone (Stereo Recordings/Tribo/Loop 128). “Lost†obtained a remix from Mike Viera (Stereo Productions/Fatal Music) and the up and coming producer known as Oliver Mann.
Escuro, once again, wanted to reach around the globe for its next project and landed in Greece to call upon the production partners of Jero & Costa G (Slanted Black/Escuro). Jero and Costa G. teamed up with Craig Mitchell to complete the project titled “The Tribeâ€. The song is a tribute to Zulu Nation, and its members. The fifth release onto the label was Mike Kings’ “Black Mamba†and this ladies and gentlemen could be heard from Boston to Brazil. DJ Babalu and Rheitor went for a smooth tribal affair on their remix, which acquired big support from Carlos Fauvrelle and Erich Ensastigue.
For release number six, Escuro went back to New York for a techier tribal feel. Keith Blackstone brought us “Welcome to my Dreamsâ€. Filled with a moving bass line and lots of movement, Keith made a track that makes your dance floor move. Keven Maroda produced the seventh release titled “Underground Thangâ€. The release received remixes from St. Lars, the new kid on the house scene and Human Body from Notorious Elektro. Jon then brought back the Greek duo of Jero and Costa G for Escuro’s eight release.
The “Tribal Life EP†features the tracks “After Sun†and “View from the Windowâ€. Jero and Costa G. were followed by the brilliant production skills of Alex Karangioze also known as Deka. Deka created a nine minute peak hour tribal monster. “In the Darkness†was remixed by FC Nond (Tribo/Sheeva). FC Nond layered an amazing remix to Deka’s original. It compliments the release and showcases the talents of FC while holding true to Deka’s original mix. Release number ten brought Cytric's release "Sleeping" to the Escuro catalog. With remixes from Deka, Rik Santiago and Matt Josh.
Manny Ward brought a San Fran house feel to the Escuro familywith the eleventh release called e11even. Dubby bass lines, and a smooth kick bring out the dark tribal feel from Manny Ward. The twelfth release for Escuro was Joao Da Silva's release called "Jaded". The Da silva and Lino remix got large support from Jaimy, FC Nond and many others. The thirteenth release was created by Tribalishious. We aquired remixes from Atlantic Tribe, Deka and Mateo Ruas (Jon Viera). Deka's rework got major support from DJ Vibe, and the Mateo Ruas "From Lisbon With Love" remix got favorable support from DJ Tomer and Dot Matrix.
More projects are on the way from this Boston imprint and one thing is for sure; their mission was and still is, to bring percussion filled tracks fueled by moody bass lines with a dark edge.
