Jaan Rannik

Classical Guitarist

About Me

Coming from a varied and international background, Jaan Rannik began playing the guitar at age 6. He quickly progressed to performing at private and public functions, mostly around his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. He gave his debut concert with the Charleston County School of the Arts at age 15, performing Vivaldi's concerto in D. Later that year, he began studying with Marc Regnier at the College of Charleston. At the age of 16, he placed third in the South Carolina Guitar Competition's high-school division.
In the spring of 2007, Jaan completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of renowned teacher and performer Julian Gray. During that time, he performed in masterclasses with internationally distinguished guitarists such as William Kanengiser, Raphaella Smits, Richard Stone, Ray Chester, and Manuel Barrueco.
After taking a year away from guitar to pursue other interests, Jaan will begin his Master of Music degree at the Peabody Conservatory in the Fall of 2008, where he has been awarded a Peabody Scholarship and the position of Graduate Assistant to Julian Gray.
