M. Harris is already a well known star in various genres all over the state of Louisiana and the American South. Born in New Iberia, Louisiana on St. Patrick’s Day, 1980 , M. Harris moved to New Orleans in 1998 to study classical and jazz as a vocalist, saxophonist, and Pianist at the University of New Orleans .

There he studied under the likes of Dr. Wee Kee Brody Therrien (1956-2007) ,

Ellis Marsallis,

Ed Petersen,

Leah Chase-Kamata,

and Steve Masakowski (bassist for Astrial Project.)

Beginning in 1999, M. Harris officially started songwriting and producing songs in and around New Orleans, as well as becoming a drummer in the UNO Blue Zoo Pep Band, playing immediately and as much as possible in cities across the Sun Belt Conference (Little Rock, Denton, Bowling Green, etc.) These seasonal experiences were expanded in 2002 when, after an introduction to Dr. Alan Turley, M. Harris became front man for the band The Reggae/Ska Conspiracy .

Over the next three years, fans came in droves from mobile to San Antonio to experience the Mardi Gras like atmosphere created to go along with their original mix of Reggae, Blues, R&B, Ska, and Hip-Hop.

In 2003, M. Harris’ business and production skills were manifested in the release of Urban Groovz Compilation: vol 1 , under his Urban Groovz Entertainment brand.

This initial album is still selling today across the world and is partly responsible for the latest Hip-Hop renaissance in Louisiana. In 2005, M. Harris’ musical travels took him to Atlanta, GA, to perform vocals, produce, and arrange for Rexless Records, and Madd Loot Records. During this time, over 75 songs featured M. Harris as a producer, vocalist, or MC. This was also the beginning of the personal recording process that led to the new solo album: UNORTHODOX .

Finished in September 2007, Unorthodox is being hailed as refreshing, not only for Hip-Hop, but for music in general. Many who were not previously Hip-Hop fans can now be found at M. Harris’ shows singing, dancing, and rapping along with die-hard Hip-Hop fans. Of the 18 songs on the album, M. Harris wrote or co-wrote 16, produced 17, sung all harmonies, and even played drums, Fender Rhodes, and Organ throughout the album. The people have spoken, and M. Harris has the musical medication to bring Hip-Hop back to life!
