Books:

"Wax Poetic" (72 pages, 42 poems) is an American coming-of-age story told through poetry. Similar to the African tradition of storytelling or the ancient Greek tragedies, the moral is conveyed by a chorus or detached observer to an audience whose individual perspectives mold the truth as they see it. The poems McClendon wrote and compiled into this collection seek to make sense out of the everyday, universal struggle for purpose and meaning. They celebrate the music of life -- with rhythm, riffs, and blue notes that reference a time in history when renaissance took form in all art. Out of adversity and disillusionment, come the faithful, honest, and hopeful lyrics of a familiar tune to a new beat.

Heroes:

God, Nature, My Mother, My Grandmother, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Ida B. Wells, Bob Marley, Assata, Tupac Shakur, Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, Don L. Lee(Haki Madubhuti), LeRoi Jones(Amiri Baraka), Gil Scott-Heron, The Last Poets, & all revolutionaries past and present...everyone in the struggle...the kaleidoscopic pluralists
