***** Music & Lyrics by Michael Gilboe, Chris Williams & John ZisaSYNOPSISCaitlyn, on the eve of her 20th birthday, sits at a restaurant, feeling unloved and unlovable, on a series of bad dates all explaining that they’d rather be “just friends” with her.The dates were just a bad dream. The next morning at the Drama Bookshop, Caitlyn explains to her friend Anthony that she’s been having this dream for weeks and she’s worried about spending another birthday and Valentine’s Day without a boyfriend. The next morning, Caitlyn wakes up and discovers a pair of plastic, shiny wings stuck to her back. At first, she thinks Anthony’s playing a big joke on her. Then she discovers that, no matter what she tries, the wings will not come off. Anthony telephones and tells Caitlyn that their boss Lakisha wants Caitlyn at work immediately. He also delivers the cryptic message that Lakisha “Can explain everything.”Caitlyn arrives at work, desperately trying to conceal her new wings from co-workers Austin and Heather. They pay her little attention, however, as they’re too busy breaking up. Anthony grabs Caitlyn and hauls her towards Lakisha’s office. Strangely, he ignores her wings too.Lakisha sees the wings clearly and even has an identical pair of her own. Lakisha explains to the stunned Caitlyn that they are both Cupids, mythological creatures charged with making people fall in love. Lakisha explains all the magical rules in a manner Caitlyn finds confusing, and Caitlyn focuses on one rule – That Cupids may bring love, but never experience it themselves.Caitlyn leaves Lakisha’s office and immediately trips over Austin, crying over his tragic breakup. Caitlyn, wanting others to be happy in love even if she can’t, tries to work her newfound magic on Austin. Caitlyn tells Austin to open his heart to Heather and she will take him back. However, as Caitlyn has not understood the principle “rules” this fails miserably. As she vows to continue to work to reunite Austin and Heather, trouble ensues as she finds herself in love with Austin. All of this unfolds with humour, heartache and hope, culminating at a final Valentine’s Day party where she must choose whether or not work her magic for real on the troubled couple.Recording Studio PhotosCOMPOSER/LYRICIST MICHAEL GILBOE’S TWITTER

What If&? My new twist on the Cupid Lore.

A lot of my writing is predicated on "What If?" Very little of the musical, "Cupid" has to do with the son of Zeus, mythology, or the new, "cute baby" interpretation. First off, I knew three criteria ...
