Gary Hutchins loved the styles and shapes of vintage guitars, but wanted something with the guts supporting modern applications. Realizing that the qualities of vintage design do not preclude the adoption of modern techniques, Gary decided to create a new brand of guitars to fit the need. Who better to aid in the design of this innovative concept for a new line of electric guitars but Allan Entwhistle?Allan had started working on guitars around 1967. After he moved to New Zealand he worked for Jansen in Auckland, designing guitars and amplifiers. Around 1974 Alan started making pickups himself for his own custom guitars. In 1978 Allan opened his own Workshop, known as the Guitar Garage with Trevor Wilkinson. In 1986 Allan moved back to the UK and worked for Rock City in Newcastle as resident luthier. Allan invented and developed the ATN (Advanced Tonal Network), a passive inductance circuit that fitted into a Strat, giving it a vastly enlarged tone range. The ATN was very successful, with thousands fitted to guitars across Europe. Since that time Alan has innovated products for Hohner, Burns London, Tanglewood and others.
When Gary and Alan met it was immediately obvious that they shared similar design ideas. They decided to produce a dedicated retro classic guitar range. Together they created Hutchins Guitars. The Hutchins Guitars range covers more than four decades of instrument styles, with shapes that are true to the original designs we all know so well. But just below the surface of these outwardly traditional stylings beats the heart of a modern beast of a guitar with a variety of voices and powers the vintage brand designers never even dreamed possible.
Gary Hutchins had a dream. Allan Entwhistle shared the vision.
Now it’s your turn.
