About Me

Thanks for dropping by. My name's Nelson...and well, I'm just your average mild-mannered 28 year old southern California latino. :) I also go by Nel, or Nelly, or whatever you can create. I was born in L.A. and continue to live here to this day. I love the city and don't see myself ever moving too far from it. But then again, after travelling a bit in the past few years and seeing what other beautiful places there are out there...well, you never know what could happen. I come from Mexican & Salvadoran parents, and was born here in the U.S. Therefore, I speak both English and Spanish relatively well. My passions, as you can tell from my profile, include music, movies, television, art, animation, photography, graphic design and several other entertainment or art related fields/media. I may not know much about art, and have limited talents, but I do know how to appreciate them, so artistic/creative people always interest me. But cool, funny and dorky types are also great! Like many people, I like to travel. I love going to new places and being able to learn new things. In early 2005 a long time dream of mine came true when I finally had the opportunity to visit several European countries in two weeks' time. It was an experience unlike any other. To this day I still think about that incredible experience. Meeting new people, seeing new places, and waking up to different sunrises every morning...It was all so exciting! I hope to create more memories like that in the near future.
Personalitywise, I guess most people would say right off the bat that I am the quiet & shy type. And yes, it's true...but that's not always me. Once I get to know people more and am more comfortable, I tend to let my little dorky and somewhat more talkative self come out. .. I always tend to be more talkative and crazy, it's just in person that I'm a bit more quiet. Hopefully I don't bore people. lol I just like to smile and I try to make people smile, even if I have to crack a joke at my own expense. I do joke around a lot, so if I say something sarcastic, please don't take it the wrong way. Another reason I'm quiet is becaues I'm a good listener. hehe I may not have the best advice, but hey...I listen. I consider myself an honest, sensitive, and caring person. But I'm not perfect. I've made mistakes in life, from which I grow and learn. In the end, just treat me with respect and I'll do the same. I've been described as a dreamer. I seem to have these unrealistic dreams of what life can bring. Maybe it's all the fictional movies I watch. But I just like to think that I try to see the best in people. I try to keep an open mind. I try to always smile. Try to be happy, as best as I can. I don't like drama. I don't like lies. I don't like ulterior motives. I just want to live my life in the best light possible. My family & friends are all part of what can make that happen. I love them all. And I'm always looking forward to making new friends. I'm pretty much over my fear of freeways.
My favorite childhood cartoons were the Ninja Turtles.
I usually own one good pair of sneakers and dress shoes.
I have a "lioncub".
I spent a week in Alaska, and two throughout Europe.
I'm not as skinny as people think.
My favorite X-Man is Wolverine.
I can draw simple cartoons, but want to learn more.
I have an old Casio Electronic Keyboard that I'd like to learn to play.
My favorite dinosaur is the Triceratops.
Red is my favorite color.
I love banana-nut ice cream.
I miss the banana flavored quik mix.
I can type fast, the proper way, including 10-key.
I love text messaging.
I've read several Michael Crichton novels and Buffy/Angel novels.
I love animals & nature.
I've had several cats, no dogs, but love both.
I consider every friend special to me.
I like making people laugh.
I like to laugh.
I can type the alphabet in 4.5 seconds.
I rarely curse in front of others.
I love cartoons.
I'm not ashamed to cry.
I own hundreds of CDs.
I subscribe to Blender & Rolling Stone.
I recently joined Netflix.
I love British music.
I express myself better through words.
I'm a kid at heart.
I always make my bed.
I love anything & everything Buffy.
I have two sisters.
I'm a good listener.
I love writing/reading emails.
I like creating graphics & manipulating photos.
I have dimples.
I speak Spanish (kinda) fluently.
I tend to be neat and organized.
I like accents.
I love Italian & Mexican food.
I don't like most asian and sea foods.
I'm a loyal person.
My favorite store is Target.
I love animals and learning about them.
I admire artists of all sorts.
I love comic/animated/graphics/pop style artwork.
Yes, I'm somewhat tall.
Despite what you may think, I actually do talk sometimes.
I WILL be happy in life.

"Beautiful Lie"
[ Official Site | MySpace Page ]
12/07/07 - Imagine a record that matches the leftfield edge of Beck or Radiohead with the kind of sure-footed pop hooks Justin Timberlake's people would write a blank cheque for. A record which vividly conjures the life of an insightful outsider, set to the dark, loping rhythms of Massive Attack or Portishead. A record built around a voice that's as sweetly expressive as it is richly soulful. Then imagine that every single sound of it, including the bass & the drums, is performed by one man on his amazingly versatile guitar. That record is Charmed & Strange. The album opens with the hypnotic Adore Adore, followed by Club Thing, a seductive tale of clubland excess in which Yoav proves he only needs his trusty acoustic to compete with Timbaland's beat-making. From there, one darkly uplifting song trips into another. One By One is a sighing eulogy to friends lost too early to responsibility; the yearning first single Beautiful Lie muses on disintegrating relationships and hidden truths; the groove-laden Yeah, The End paints a vivid picture of impending apocalypse; and the album is rounded off by a gorgeous, slowed down cover of the Pixies’ Where Is My Mind? that could tear a heart at a hundred paces. It's a record that sounds unlike anything else around, edgy and original, but with the tunes to light up daytime radio. "I've been told it sounds like Damien Rice produced by the Neptunes, or an acoustic Nine Inch Nails, or Beck meets Buckley meets Björk. I'm not sure any of those is right. I guess I'd just say it's left-of-centre pop music inspired by all the big themes in my life and all the music I've been into. It's been a huge and often frustrating journey to get me here." Yoav allows himself a smile. "But it's definitely been worth it."::::::::::LYRICS:::::::::::Yesterday, today, tomorrow Fade away like frozen photographs. Remember, forget The stakes, the ways you take, The ways you make the moments pass. For every regret, I tell a beautiful lie. And I would die if you find out. I tell a beautiful lie every time that I did not open up my mouth. All the same, it’s a game, it’s a play, it’s a war, it’s a shame that we’re always fighting for. I don’t mean to cast no blame, I don’t intend to pretend I could - I never loved you more. But in the blink of an eye, everything you ever knew can change And it’s a beautiful lie if you think everything will always stay the same.Babe. My babe. You got a secret – it’s starting to show. My babe. Sweet babe. How long can you keep it? How far would you go? You tell a beautiful lie. You tell a beautiful lie. And it’s going to, it’s going to drive you crazy.Babe My babe. It’s starting to show. My babe. Sweet babe. How far would you go, go, go to tell a beautiful lie? Yesterday, today, tomorrow Fade away like frozen photographs Remember, forget Forever. [ Cough Meds ]
For the past few days, a lot of people at the office have been hit by the flu & cold season. I started having an itchy throat early last week and then started coughing more and more as the week progressed. The regular Dayquil type medicines weren't helping, so I knew it was time to seek something stronger. So I went to the doctor today and now I have to take some nasty tasting syrup medicine along with some antibiotics. Fun times ahead! lol

I Support..

I'd like to meet:

Despite all the differences there are from one person to another...our various lifestyles and backgrounds, our own likes and dislikes and our unique personalities...in the end we still have some of the most basic needs in common, we are all social creatures, we all seek the love and company of others. So if you've got a good heart, an open mind, a nice personality, and can laugh at my sarcastic remarks, then feel free to say hi. Guys or girls, straight or not....whoever/whatever....be cool, honest and most importantly, be yourself.I like chatting/emailing and am always interested in getting to know new people, on a friendship level. I'm not looking to meet up with people right off the bat. Over time, as I know some of you better, it's a possibility. But for now, mostly just interested in friendly conversations. If I add you here, it's because I want to get to know you. You are not just another number on my list. So please do say hi now and then!

Music:

.
.

There's a line from an Inner Circle song that says "Oh, sweet music, how can anyone live without it?" I couldn't agree more. Without music, I'd go crazy! Music is what adds that extra touch of "life" to my life, if thatmakes sense. A good dance song can really pump us up during a workout. A sad song can keep us company when we're feeling down. A love ballad can make that special date much more memorable. And ofcourse, we all have our guilty pleasures, those one-hit-wonders that we know are bad but still can't help singing along. I Love Music. Name me a band or an artist and chances are I may have heard of them. If not, then I'll want to know more about them. I'm open minded when it comes to music. Whenever I am handed a CD, I always give it a listen.I've been surprised often by what type of music I get into! I like pretty much all types of music: anything from oldies to hip hop to spanish rock to funk to ska to swing to electronic to alternative to pop to cumbias to80's and all else in between. It's hard to pick a favorite band though, so I'm not going to try. Every week I'm into a different person or band. Just ask me when you talk to me who I'm currently into. I get exposed tomany new artists through my job, so if you ever need a recommendation, just ask me. :-)

Movies:

.
.
.
I enjoy watching all types of movies, from the smallest of indie films, to the biggest of the blockbuster hits. I'll admist, most of my favorites are usually the big hollywood action type films. I enjoy the big special fx movies partly because I love the little worlds they takes us into...worlds thatsometimes only our imaginations can come up with. I also love them because computer animation fascinates me. It's an interesting/fun art. But a nice little indy film can be just as great! Especially the ones that tugat your heart. hehe However, I don't think I have a movie I can really call my favorite ...but at one point it was Jurassic Park. Dinosaurs fascinated me as a kid, and that was the first movie that broughtthem to life for me. I remember actually being kinda scared when I was at the theater and the first dinosaur was about to appear on screen. Oh, and I also love animation, too! (As long as it's funny and/or done well.)
Off the top of my cabeza, some movies I've enjoyed: X-Men, Spider-Man, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Memento, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Donnie Darko, Kill Bill, Shrek, Crash, Munich, Brokeback Mountain, Babel, El Laberinto del Fauno and manymore I could keep adding. For now, take a look below at some of the most recent films I've caught at the theaters.

Television:

.
.

I realize TV is the downfall of our civilization, but dammit I still love it! I'm was and always will be a Buffy fanatic. What can I say? From the first time I saw that show...I fell in love. It had the perfect mix ofhorror, drama, comedy, heartbreak and fantasy. It made me laugh so many times, yet also brought the occassional tear. I miss it.Aside from Buffy, a few other favorites are The Simpsons, Family Guy, Angel, and Smallville. Some new additions are Alias, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break, QaF, Ugly Betty and Heroes. I guess I tend to enjoy the showsthat have some element of "fantasy" in them, some comedy, or just some mystery. The list continues to grow often as I keep getting into more and more shows. I can't help it, I'm an addict...and damn proud of it! :)

.

Books:

.
.

I don't read as much now as I used to. I'm always at work and all...but that's no excuse. I guess I've just gotten lazy. But I do have a small pile of books in my room that I plan to get to. I've already started pickingsome of them up again. For the most part, I enjoy reading fiction. I also like reading autobiographical novels, especially when I can relate to the author in some way. My all-time favorite novel is Jurassic Park. The movie was cool, but the novel is definitely the best!
Travel.
.
In 2005, I went on a two week "European Discovery" tour, going through some of the major cities in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France. I fell in love with every single city we visited...the cultures, the people, the scenery, etc. In the not-so-distant future, I hope to continue my travels to other areas of the world.

Heroes:

.
.
.
My parents. I look up to them. I admire them. I respect them. They have always been kind, honest, caring, hard working people. I couldn't have asked for more loving parents.
My best friend, my love and more. From the very first day I met him, I already felt so comfortable being myself around him. I knew we were meant to create a new bond. He's been a constant source of inspiration, support, love, trust, and loyalty. To this day, I'm very proud of him and love him always.
Today's Visits.
