Troy Byer

Destined for success from the very start, New York-born Troy Byer overcame countless obstacles to become the woman she is today. Enduring the divorce of her parents at an early age and struggling in a single-parent household, Troy was no stranger to hardships. Yet, she took fate into her own hands and landed her first role in show business on the hit PBS series, Sesame Street. The show’s notorious success opened Troy’s eyes to a whole new world of chance and opportunity and laid the foundation for the rest of her life.
Upon graduating from high school, Troy enrolled in New York’s Leonard Davis School for the Performing Arts and gained much recognition for her acting skills early on. This sparked her decision to place college on hold and move to California, where she pursued an acting career that immediately flourished. Her role in the hit series Dynasty, as well as her leading performance in Robert Wise’s modern-day West Side Story portrayal, Rooftops, gained her great recognition and won her ShoWest’s 1988 Newcomer of the Year Award.
Troy Byer’s career has been wildly successful, spanning over two decades and including numerous guest appearances in critically acclaimed television series, as well as roles in feature films playing opposite elite Hollywood talent. In addition to her success in front of the camera, Troy has used her exceptional visual eye and knack for storytelling to write and direct major theatrical films for Warner Brothers and New Line Pictures, such as Love Don’t Cost a Thing and B.A.P.S. She has worked with Oscar-winning actors, Emmy and Golden Globe nominees, and countless other A-list talent.
Extending beyond Troy’s passion for show business is her love of writing and leading transformational seminars. After six years of intense training in Ontology – the design of being human – Troy became a certified senior Seminar Leader for Landmark Education, a global, transformational organization. In addition to continuing her ontological studies, Troy is currently pursuing her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Southern California University.
One of her greatest feats was self-publishing her first book in 2008 – Ex-Free: 9 Keys to Freedom After Heartbreak. This remarkable book gives the reader a look into the secret behind Troy’s unconventional, almost unbelievable, close friendship with her ex-husband, his fiancé, his fiancé’s ex-husband and his wife. At a young age, she was taken from her mother, as a result of child neglect, and moved into her father’s home with his new family. Living with her mother post-breakup, Troy saw the pain and sadness a failed relationship causes. Yet, living with her father, she saw the family life she had always desired.
After experiencing her first heartbreak, Troy was able to relate to her mother and finally understood the stinging hurt of a breakup. She overcame the anguish and vowed never to let an experience like this take over her life – she would not let it bring her down. Her book is a living testament to this. Troy is committed to teaching others how to free themselves from heartache and love themselves enough to know they can do it – for only in changing the way we look and speak of ourselves can we change the experience of ourselves.
