Disclaimer:
This is a fan run profile with no connection to the late Vince Guaraldi, the band members of the Trio, or the Guaraldi family. The intent of this profile is spread the music of the Vince Guaraldi Trio. Though Vince has numerous recordings under his name, or with other artists (that certainly deserve a listen), we are going to concentrate on the music of the Trio only.
The music is timeless... The work on the Peanuts animations is legendary... But there is much more to Vince Guaraldi than just "cartoon soundtracks"... Though the Trio was best known for work on Peanuts soundtracks, early recordings such as "A Flower is a Lovesome Thing" and "The Vince Guaraldi Trio" are testaments to Vince's vision and skill as a piano player worthly of respect and admiration. The Trio also won a Grammy in 1963 for "Cast Your Fate to the Wind", which appears on the record "Jazz Impressions Of Black Orpheus".
That said, the work on the Peanuts soundtracks stands on its own as some of the finest cool jazz ever to be recorded... The work is genius, plain and simple.
"Vince is what you call a piano player. That's different from a pianist. A pianist can play anything you can put in front of him. A piano player can play anything BEFORE you can put it in front of him." -Jon Hendricks
