About Me

www.myspaceeditor.it‘The New Thing’ is an expression used to describe an avant-guard kind of music that aroused in me a lot of puzzlement, trying to image its undertones, until I heard Ettore Ciapica aka MISTERCIAPICA DJ.Let’s start saying that listening to ‘New Thing’ is not for all, because, at least it’s needed a musical background rather articulated to understand and perceive all shades, the contaminations it contains. It makes me think that it would be as swallowing good wine, without adequately tasting it.It makes you drunk and stop. And not all of the time getting drunk is pleasant.MISTERCIAPICA DJ, for me, is one of the ‘New Thing’ prophets in Italy, which choose to inebriate fine palates. That often meant early evening exhibitions, when the environment still has to be warmed, without a starring role. But it’s not a problem. Playing His music really matters.Winds, percussions, female voices recalling to the mind ancestral rituals from Mother Africa evolved in America through the lives of people who suffered for their skin color, till arriving to Chicago, Illinois, within the AAMC, Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians Inc.The AAMC was founded in 1965, under patronage of several Illinois state authorities, with the only one purpose to promote culture, particularly the music, among the lowest society classes, especially among colored people that, as it is well known, much has given to world music.Inside this association many people have grown, later becoming personalities, as Roscoe Mitchell, Lester Bowie (Cosby Show’s theme music composer and performer), Anthony Braxton (awarded a Genius Grant from the MacArthur Foundation) and Muhal Richard Abrams (AAMC co-founder, the recipient of the Jazzpar Award in Denmark). In short, we are speaking of the soul of Great Black Music.Inspired by these people philosophy, sharing their ideas, MISTERCIAPICA DJ went on with his way, moved uniquely by the purpose of creating genuine emotions. MISTERCIAPICA DJ, sirs, is the only one colored with white skin that I know, mixing various artists’ music with his console, generating an irresistible effect in me.Anyway, it seems times are not mature, for Italian people to receive this sound. At the moment, I had the possibility to listen to some tracks by him as Jazzhouse, Jazz Endeavour, String Sensations, TribalX, Song for AECO (a tribute to his beloved Art Ensemble of Chicago) and finally DAYREN (last effort) which I consider ‘supreme’.I wish my dear friend, since too much time forgotten, to be noticed by an ‘Independent label’ not only interested on profits.
