The Bachs are a young indie-pop-rock duo comprised of siblings Sebastian Abraham Bach (who shall be referred to henceforth as "S.A."; 22 years old) and Allison Jill Bach (more commonly, "Allie"; 16 years old). Their sadistic parents named firstborn son "Sebastian" in what could only logically be construed as an act of thoughtlessness, if not outright scorn. In 1989, at the tender age of five, S.A.'s future was devastated further by the widespread popularity of a hair metal band called Skid Row and its frontman "Sebastian Bach" (real name: Sebastian Bierk). The next year, S.A.'s recently rehabilitated parents unceremoniously named his new sister "Allison." (Lucky bitch.)

In the early 00s, finally out of therapy and marginally functional (but still somewhat dazed), S.A. set off in pursuit of the obvious next step: forming a rock band. Lacking friends or social graces of any kind, he enlisted his much more normal and well-adjusted sister Allie to play bass and sing backups. Having no better ideas, they dubbed themselves The Bachs. Inexplicably, they sounded pretty damn good.

Over a few years and a couple hundred songs, pretty damn good became pretty damn great, which has ultimately transformed into pretty damn awesome. Songwriting and performing provide a healthy outlet for S.A.'s elevated emotions and bizarre obsessions, as is evidenced by quirky anthems such as "This Is The Shit" and "Parasitic Twin." The duo's complementary styles have coalesced into a unique stew of indie-pop/alt-rock-- immediately catchy melodies married seamlessly with lyrics that are deep, striking, and decidedly left of center, while avoiding opacity and pretension. It's serious music that doesnt take itself too seriously. (Or maybe the other way around.)

The Bachs, joined by Cousin Matt Bach on drums and Moonie Bach (adopted) on guitar, play out frequently in and around their native Los Angeles. A few people besides the band members themselves and their immediate family have realized they're awesome. Their new full-length debut disc is appropriately titled "Respect Your Youngers." Take it for a spin.
