Idea for created in 1995.
Band formed in 2000-2001.Mission- deviate from musical norms, devise new ways of self-recording with little to no budget, buy nothing/use everything, convince people that what they hear is a figment of they're imagination, create underground bunker, establish lines of credit for non-existant people, hypnosis thru repetition has now turned into actual SONGS! never intended to go beyond first EP, didn't look like we would...The main idea for ?F-R! was devised by 2 people, deep in the Appalachains during a boring summer night. Idea was create and modify basic rawk loop, distort and layer, multi-track (4) and mix. There is one track that was accomplished.Flashforward- late 2000-early 2001- ressurect idea, applied to new brains, things fall together....finding the grind of 'real life' to be too mundane to take without proper stimuli, i found myself (NP3) tinkering with the old idea of loop/layering, and discovered that a friend(Dr.G) that i had known for years was hip to try just about anything as his band had broken up shortly beforehand. I asked what he thought of the idea, he said we could give it a try and see what we come up with. Well, we(Dr.G/Barron Von/NP3) came up with 'the Hordes of Self-Important People' EP. 59 minutes of crunch, distortion, swirling and chopping gtrs, bass, and whatever else was within reach (ie- glasses of water, keys, remote controls, pills, wood, a really nice keyboard) and threw it altogether and stayed up too late making it. it was a literal one take wonder, nothing tried more than twice, because as the saying goes "if it's worth doing, do it right the first time" or something.
During the course of recording the EP, Dr.Guitardo decided that he didn't want to be a part of the ?F-R! fold or society in general, so he quit. Everything.
The Barron and I, heartbroken and confused, completed the final tracks (Eulogy and After the Fact {appropriate names, eh?}), I completed mixing and we simply listened to what we could've been doing more of. ?F-R! was done before it even started (another one of the possible titles used). What we didn't count on was that within a years' time, Dr.G. would renounce his stance and come back! Something I had given a 4% chance of happening, thus, ?F-R! was reborn in the summer of 2002, and brought forth a flurry of renewed creativity. In 2 weekends, we laid down what would become "Manifest Destiny"(now, with Prof. Everret Monopoly behind the skins). I took the raw takes and laid them down, mixed over the course of 2 weeks as fast as humanly possible. What resulted was less of the 'tongue in cheek' attitude that pervaded the EP, and lyrics that were decipherable, but still not fore-front. More thought was given to structure as opposed to 'destructure' which was the original concept of the EP.Copies were sent. Labels were contacted. Kids yawned. Puppies were petted. Little was said. Such is life. Then technology took a turn. We lost our 'machine'.Status was hiatus till we could find a suitable replacement.
Which happened in the guise of a craptop, unfortunately, our big ideas won't fit onto such a tiny machine, and it's primary use was that of a 'digital 4 trk'. 40+tracks have been laid down in skeleton format. The Dream Machine is DONE. WATCH YR EARS/MIND! We will take them...As was stated- we also wrangled a local personality, DJ Sorta, and introduced him to our flavor of noize, he appreciated the raw sense of it all and proceeded to turn out some noize of his own....you will enjoy it. This, I command!the plot continues...OH, BTW, if you'd like to hear more or want to use/abuse/destroy/incriminate/desicrate or would like to have the feeling of holding a REAL CD-R in yr hands (with hand made art, how bout that!?) contact me (NP3) @
