I want to meet designers, crafty kids, makers and ethical business people of all sorts. Especially ones who want to stock stuff in the new shop and help make it a hub of ethical cool in melbourne. We stock local designers ethically made goodies at the very sensible rate of just 30% on wholesale, so you crafty kids can actually make some money off your wonderful items.

we stock a range of books by the aduki press, they mostly specialise in vegan cookbooks and are a very cool melbourne business.

Stay Human gallery
AS you guys know the shop is really quite large with lots of wall space and we've sectioned off a part with the space as a gallery. Because we want to support and stock not only local designers but local artists as well we are putting out the call for people to hang some pieces. It work just like in a cafe where we get the benifit of having cool art and we are charging just 15% comission on sales we make for you and 0% comission on sales you make (ie you bring a buyer in with you. or on your opening night.)
we have a ton of space but will be picking people who fit with the shop, so maybe swing by and have a chat to see what we are about. What i would love is for the our gallery space to be like a permanent version of the brunswick st's galleries small pieces exhibition. Where a lot of local artist have different pieces up and it acts as a sales room so they can be stocked somewhere year round not just a few months a year at various bigger exhibitions. This way smaller artists can make a more regular income from their art. my favourite director would have to be Luc Besson. If you get a chance check out ONG BAK by him which is ace, aswell as YAMAKAZI which is good just because it features some french parcour action. Other movies i really like, batman begins, hero, house of flying daggers, bladerunner.
Television:
Buffy the vampire slayer (yep a box set collector), dark angel, tru calling and other late night time wasters.
Books:
The most re-read book in my collection is The Prince by Machiavelli, it's so damned good, he is so cut and dry and really lives in the world of what men do to each other not what he wishes they would do.
The book Business as Unusual by Anita Roddick of the Body Shop probably was the biggest influence on me starting Stay Human and deciding to throw my lot in with the ethical business movement. It's very good. Also anything by paul hawken. I also read lots of books about small business and marketing for fun, which is a little lame but can be helpful.
